This has to be the dumbest piece of shit limitation bungie has put in this game (and that's saying something). Bungie doesn't have ANY experience with this type of game and it clearly shows. Let the players decide what they want to wear. Bungie want to be the hand of God controlling what players do.they are trying to make themselves the Apple of SWSs. This never works out in the long run. Make drop rates of exotics infinitesimal if need be but don't limit what someone can and cannot wear. So my costume won't match because bungie says so? I gotta be mismatched (especially annoying for OCD infused grinders like me) to be the best I can be although I've worked hard to earn a full exotic set? If that's the case, who gives a -blam!- about bungie's want for a player to have a "story" about the pieces they've earned? If trading was involved it would be stupid but a bit more understandable and justifiable, but I can't show off my gains for what reason?
All this "fair play" crap in games these days has to be done away with. Work hard, win big, PWN them all. It's becoming like those shitty kids sports where no one keeps score and everyone's a winner.
Edit: Since people seem to be hung up on the me mentioning exotic sets, let me state that even if you have an exotic piece for each armor and weapon slot, my point still stands because limits are still imposed.
I've stated in comments that full exotic sets should be required before its ability can be activated.
> to clarify: ONE ability per set. Whole set required to activate ability. Simple as.
Individual exotic pieces instead of full sets is lazy game design, as someone stated in comments.
There's more to matching sets than colours. A shader won't help if your helmet is a flaming skull and your chest plate is based on butterflies.

Dumbest thing I've ever read. There is a limit to one exotic armor piece and one exotic weapon because they have the perks that they have. If you had a full set of armor and 3 exotic weapons, you would be more than OP in PVP and in PVE. The game would be on easy mode because you would be just so much more powerful. I'm glad they imposed this limit.

There are no exotic sets. Only legendary sets. As far as I've found there is no limit on legendary sets.

OP being a Special Snowflake RIP Humanity, OP has doomed us all with his impotence.

Edited by Booker91z: 8/30/2014 11:59:25 PM ] Hoo boy, at least Mordin has set us on the right path. YoungOnline, you are wrong on a number of points. First, there are no exotic sets. The exotic class is perhaps poorly named. Each exotic item is unique. That is not to say that we won't make copies of them, but each piece has a specific capability and history divorced from other items. Second, fair play is the opposite of wussified sports. Fair and honorable competition makes for the best sports and games. The players must each be given a chance to fail or succeed based on their capabilities measured against their competitors. A cheat gives the victory to one who did not earn it, wussification gives it to both or all competitors, and thus robs all of them. But I digress. The one exotic limit has little to do with robbed victories. Third, the limit is not just to hold back your overwhelming power (snrk). Although it does do that to some degree, the effect it has is to improve and encourage player choice. The Red Death offers vampiric health regeneration, while Patience and Time provides on-demand stealth. These are huge game changing abilities. By limiting a Guardian to choosing one of them, it encourages thought about how they will play. Fourth, the choice to group unique top-tier items under the Exotic label was deliberate, not lazy. Top-tier sets are grouped under the Legendary category, of similar power, but with more standardized effects. We do not criticize the Arthurian Legend for failing to provide harness, and armour to accompany Excalibur. I believe you are whining about being told to think.

It's actual a good thing that they limited one exotic because it has the most upgrades and buffs

Edited by ColonelPutty: 8/31/2014 1:45:48 AMtheir game, their rules. also, where did this idea originate that just because certain games share similar characteristics they all need to operate exactly the same?
-
Oh you're one of THOSE guys who expects to be able to blow through everything like it's Borderlands. Trading is a terrible idea as well. I'm glad Bungie is making the game and people like you aren't.

It's called balance my ignorant friend. Believe it or not if a game is unbalanced it either a. Falls apart or b. Isn't fun. The reason why you can't wear a full set of exotic armor is because play wise it would unbalance the game and make it to easy than they want you to experience. I could care less about matching armor sets in battle, when I fight it's best gear I've got... period. Now in tower yeah I might go for a set just to look good, but that's when I know I'm not needing the extra boost the exotic armor is going to give. Besides for all we know they might let us add more armor as expansions come out. So wait till the game comes out before you bitch about it, k Thx bye.

Don't play the game then. You're stupid.

All i gotta say is shaders. Sorry your flames an butterflies get-up wont look good together. Dont sound like it should.

Exotic limit cap is the best thing

There's going to be just as good legendarys relax. We don't even have the game yet and u don't have one exotic yet chill.

Haven't you seen any vidoc or whatever? Luke Smith, designer of Destiny mentioned how he've thought of games like WoW and Everquest while taking some design decisions, aren't those games mmo's?
-
You're an idiot
-
Really? Don't buy the game then. This isn't a game where you will blow through the content. Calm down. You're an idiot.
-
On the one hand I agree with you. I really hate how everything is becoming about "fairness." This is a competitive game! Things are earned, and not out of fairness. On the other I think you want this to be like WoW and other mmorpg's and while those games are great, Destiny simply isn't that. So I'm not disappointed when things aren't like other mmo's.

Its not about Bungie playing god, its about Bungie balancing the game play.

Shaders.

I think there'd be plenty of unique sets of legendary armor, the playstation bonus armor is actually just a bunch of rares, exotics just spice things up. "There's more to matching sets than colours. A shader won't help if your helmet is a flaming skull and your chest plate is based on butterflies." Giving us the option to create our own look, to customize our characters to our liking to make us stand out in the crowd is a pillar of destiny. Reducing our ability to customize because we need matching sets of armor to activate an ability is stupid. I could understand if each piece in the set had it's own unique ability and could be switched out with others to personalize my guardian, but unless they pump out many different kinds of exotics sets I won't be as unique in carving out my own legend as I would like. Everyone should be able to obtain an exotic and an exotic ability, oh and be able to tell their own unique experience in how they got it, and it has to be fair for the new players so the ability can't be too powerful. And in the case of having 1 exotic and the rest being legendaries the customization can become complex because every piece of legendary armor in the game has the chance to give the same abilities as other legendary armors, so says the destinydb website where they tore open the beta.
