Plus American non-Christians tend to be pissy about how their society and sometimes laws are dominated by Christian values, and the fact that Christian fundamentalism has a very significant following yet anytime they complain about it moderate Christians bombard them with No True Scottsman arguments rather than acknowledging the problem.
And lastly Christian beliefs come off as silly to the non-religious, so they're also going to be picked on for the same reasons Bigfoot enthusiasts, 911 conspirators or other paranormal beliefs get picked on.
