That was a pretty awesome read.
I really liked this frame with Didact, it made him look like the all-powerful forerunner he is!
Spoiler's of course.
Poor black team encountering Didact like that.
I felt like this comic presented Didact in a much better way than Halo 4.
In Halo 4 all he did was float around talking. Here we actually got to see a glimpse of what he's actually capable of. Not just random force grips here and there.
I'm starting to like Didact more and more as a character, they're really fleshing him out now.

Yeah, float around....

Well, we barely saw him outside of his ball. It was only in the beginning and in the end. And during those moments, the only thing we saw him do was to grip Chief a few times and then either enter his cryptum again or get his ass kicked by an AI. I would have liked some more Didact outside of his cryptum. And yes, float around. That is what I remember most of Didact in Halo 4. Floating around scanning shit.
-
That doesn't bother me in the slightest. He was capable of doing all that shit without having to show his face. To me, it compounds the fact he's such a powerful adversary. The floating and scanning doesn't surprise/bother me either. He's been out of it for a 100,000 years. He's got a lot to learn. I do love the extra face time in the comics though. And I like how my analysis of the Didact and the Chief is fitting in nicely to all of this.

It was a little weird to me having the main villain barely showing up.

Edited by Lord of Admirals: 8/27/2014 4:01:07 PMHe was supposed to show up more. Halo 4 originally had a level meant to explore the Didact's past in detail, but it was cut due to time constraints. Plus, he wasn't the main focus. Chief and Cortana were. I see the events of Halo 4 being a wrapper to contain the "true" story of Halo 4 which is Chief and Cortana's relationship.
He was supposed to show up more. Halo 4 originally had a level meant to explore the Didact's past in detail, but it was cut due to time constraints.
This explains alot actualy.

Oh, that's a shame. That would have been needed since a lot of people didn't understand where he came from. And yeah, I got that the focus was on Chief and Cortana but that made everything else feel a little sloppy and just there for the sake of fleshing out Chief and Cortana.
-
The Terminals are there for a reason. I disagree with everything feeling sloppy. Things did go by a bit faster than usual, but that's due to story content being cut.
-
Well, the terminals are not supposed to tell us vital information that we need to understand the characters. They need to establish a character before they can make him go crazy and destroy earth.
but that's due to story content being cut.
And that's why it felt sloppy and unfinished. My friends, who hadn't read any of the books had no idea what was going on in Halo 4 because of the lack of establishing new characters in the game. But this discussion has been on way too many times ^^
Well, the terminals are not supposed to tell us vital information that we need to understand the characters.
*looks at Halo CEA, Halo 4, and Halo 2A* Uh, well, that's certainly how they're being treated, and there was never a set explanation of what kind of story content the terminals would have. In fact, the ever since Halo 3, the Terminals have had some of the most vital information.
My friends, who hadn't read any of the books had no idea what was going on in Halo 4 because of the lack of establishing new characters in the game.
But, they're new characters. They need to get their start somehow.
-
But it have never been vital for the story in game. Only outside of the games. They've been there for people to dwell into the extended lore, like in Halo CEA. Those were mostly just about the forerunners but nothing you needed to know to actually understand the game's story.
But, they're new characters. They need to get their start somehow.
And that's why they should have established them better in Halo 4. They didn't know who Didact was, why he was on Reqium, how he had survived the Halo's firing, why he wanted to kill the humans, who Librarian was, how she could save Chief and how she could even exist.
