I don't understand the point. Do you want to be in a clan so big that you don't actually play with or even talk to a majority of your clan mates? Just invite anyone you see?
Quality > Quantity
I'm shocked the limit is even so high to begin with. 50 seems like a big stretch already.

While 100 people may be too large for me and I would have no trouble finding people to play with, having a larger clan size allows for many more community driven events. For example, Eve Online Edit: The more troublesome thing would be the management of "Alliances". Alliances should be Clans teaming up, not clans joining a Regime.

Having a clan at even 100 means your still playing with randoms with the same clan tag. seems useless to have a clan larger than a small group of people who actually know eachother and can play together on the daily.

I know many people who can't play frequently of for long periods of time. For example I can only have access to my xbox during the holidays and whilst I will be very active then, I will have weeks and months of no play. For me I would like a large clan with which my absence wouldn't be too detrimental.

with the limited 360 friends list, I drop people after 30 days inactive. Besides, if you are never on it just clutters my list anyway. Sorry but that's how I manage my contacts. I wouldn't be surprised if many others do as well.

The larger the clan the more likely you are to be able to find people playing.
