A few gentle reminders...

As I wait for the impending release of Destiny, I find myself repeatedly drawn back to these forums in search of news and updates -- anything to sate my hunger for this game. As the weeks have slipped by, I've found myself growing more and more frustrated with the community on the forums. So much negativity, so many confident voices prophesying the impeding failure of this much-hyped game, so much unashamed trolling -- it's just gotten so tired. I wanted to take a moment to remind my fellow guardians of a few things: 1.) Everything is going to be fine. It's easy to sit back and let the negativity wash over you, both from the self-assured naysayers and the foaming-at-the-mouth fanboys. But please try to keep in mind that the folks at Bungie are professionals. This game, Destiny, is not their first rodeo. Chances are the game will be playable, and probably even fun. Maybe it doesn't have all the features you want it to have, but don't fret, because... 2.) This game is taking several cues from the classic MMO structure of game design. So you can probably expect regular content updates, new features, improvements to existing features, and balances to gear and skills. That's how long-term games are run. If there is a feature you want to see, keep asking for it (respectfully), and you might just see it implemented. 3.) The folks at Bungie owe you nothing. They are creating a product, and they are offering you the chance to buy it. If you don't like or don't want that product, don't buy it. You are owed nothing; anything they give you is just gravy. 4.) It doesn't matter which console you play on. There are lots of people out there with strong opinions about the consoles. For the life of me, I've never understood why. I play on PS4 and you play on xboxOne. That's pretty much where the conversation should end. You aren't better than me because your system has a more vibrant online structure. I'm not better than you because my system is technologically superior. Sometimes people pick different systems. Why is that something to fight about? 5.) The lore-based disagreement between Hunters and Warlocks is cool, but when it comes down to it, each class (Titan included) has different skills and fills different roles on the fireteam. Whatever you choose to play, have fun, and let others have fun. I hope at least some of this is well-received. I hope you guys take this to heart, so we can all have a good time without trying to tear each other down.

 • I absolutely agree with pretty much everything except point #2. It does take some elements from MMOs, but Destiny is far from being an MMO. I think giving the false impression that it is one, is very misleading to the point of unrealistic expectations and disappointment. It causes people who love MMOs to believe that there is or should be more features in place from existing ones, which leads to the unrealistic expectations, disappointment, and emotional rants that plague this forum. The people who do not like MMOs hear its an MMO and are pretty much instantly turned away. So while it may have a few MMO qualities, it is far from one, and expecting things to be added to this game "because its an MMO" are only going to cause turmoil.
