faction rep is earned by wearing faction versions of class items (aka the cloak, the hip cloth and the band) when doing so anything that would earn you crucible or vanguard rep instead earns you rep towards said faction.

yep, I guess they did that so you could have a fair chance to raise your faction rep whatever you focus is on PvP or PvE or a balance of both.
-
You sure about that? That doesn't make any sense, seeing as you need faction rep to purchase those items in the first place.
-
yep, I even visit the faction vendors in the beta myself, class items are the only things without faction rank requirements (tho they do require being lvl 20), cost like 4500 glimmer and says right there in the item description that wearing the item converts vanguard and crucible rep into faction rep.

Most likely not going to be 20 in full release (some but not all) they just did that so we could see how and what they are.

not impossible it will be, a lot of hints suggest we suppose to hit 20 about 1/3 of the game and the remaining 2/3 is endgame, which might include faction grinding. If they where meant to just be unattainable for the beta they could have made them lvl 9 or 10
