No private matches or clan matches (Source included)
Destiny has no private matches at all. Proof provided by this youtube video above, go to 1:15:00 he says private matches aren't in the game and there aren't clan battles either.
This company would be literally stupid to not add this.
How will clans work without custom games?
How will friends play against eachother?
How will any tournament exist?
How will people train for matchmaking?
How will 1v1s be possible?
Honestly without custom games this game is pretty dead, there will be no competitive scene at all because there won't be any chances to prove it. I've played Halo for years to know that custom games are something I do every day and is very important. While this isn't Halo, it's important.

Edit: Stop attacking a straw man and don't put words in my mouth based on what you assume. I bring up valid points. While you may not want a competitive scene in Destiny, it should be there. I don't think Bungie hired a competitive lead and said they would take steps towards making competitive gameplay for nothing. There is a ridiculous amount of narcissistic replies saying how they're thankful they don't have to deal with "competitive players" ruining their game. This is so pathetic.

3 RepliesI honestly believe that Bungie would add private matches at some point during Destiny. I imagine there will be far too many complaints. I for one am surprised Bungie made the decision to not add custom games/private matches. Custom games was the fuel for half of Halo3's popularity (my opinion). I couldn't go into a single match without getting invited to one... Either way I believe Destiny will be killer even without private matches.

5 RepliesAt the end of the day it's not up to you to decide what should go into a game, or that a game needs a feature to be playable. It's up for you to decide if you want to play it or not. But you're a tool for picking a side in the "Competitive Scene" wars. It's like picking a side in the console wars. No one cares because your opinions are YOURS and NOT their own. And then ultimately, however you feel about ANY of the games, their publishers dropping money on MLG or whomever to promote and play them is going to decide where the communities go. That money exchange has NOTHING to do with how competitive the game is, or if it's got private lobbies, or clan support, or WHATEVER. It's just about who has the deepest pockets. "this Game is pretty dead" MY ASS... More people in this [u]world[/u] play for PvE/Co-op content than all the PvP communities combined. Wake up, son.

4 RepliesEdited by RhymesWithMoose: 8/15/2014 9:50:28 PMCustom and private matches aren't really a great solution for Destiny (you'd have to strip out all the rewards, so groups would gointo matchmaking anyways), but it would be highly valuable to match groups against groups and individuals against individuals (in loose terms).

I wasn't expecting a forge mode. But a custom match lobby isn't going to be in this game? Well. At least they aren't making us pay for out own custom matches like Battlefield...

6 RepliesI am thinking truly competitive players would not like this game, just based off of the gratuitous amount of guns with so many stat variations in the game, and the supers, and the magic, and the non mlg UI and....... The list goes on. I don't care for hyper competitive games. If there are some competitive aspects, great, if there is none, oh well. H4 died really quickly online because 343 ran off the casuals and the competitive players moved in to every other game as they came out. Bungie knows the money is in the casuals that will stick to the game FOREVER and keep the online alive. Here not being a custom matching of some sort Sucks, a lot. But the scale of the story missions should help. And they can add that later on. I wanted custom games as we'll, but if they are not in the game. It will be alright. We can just keep asking for it.

1 ReplyIt's said how most people who don't like competitive players all suck in the crucible. If a company starts backing casual gamers rather than their competitive gamers who will actually be dedicated to the game, sad to say but this game may fail. Especially as an FPS. Games are attractive in nature because of the competitive aspect. And if you're playing destiny for the story and to explore, I totally respect that.

A lot of people will be unhappy with the amount of pub-stomping there will be in matchmaking from organised clans that would otherwise be engaged with each other in customs. Playing solo or even with a friend could prove to be a real pain for some people without the ability/desire to form a 6 man squad for Crucible. Eventually the rage caused by this will reach boiling point on the forums and unranked custom games will be introduced to alleviate the pressure, and soak up the tears. < you heard it here first people ;)

1 ReplyI can't believe it everytime I read the words competitive and gaming in the same sentence...it's made for fun. However, where I feel a lot of inconsistency in the game's development is in PVE where most regular player's are going to mainly play destiny if you look at the polls they encourage the hardcore elitist gamers with clans by not adding matchmaking in raids even though it really would not affect them if they did (the argument that people are gonna say raids are too hard is silly, since some people are going to complain about it in clans anyways with or without matchmaking and a lot of people don't mind failing repeatedly until success...or making friends playing with random groups...anyone who plays dark souls comes to mind) but when it comes to PVP they don't allow the hardcore PVP players to have they their private matches which also doesn't affect other people. So they piss off people on all sides of the spectrum I just don't get it. I mean do they want to create a game for everyone or it's their goal for people to play the game their way or not at all....with those kinds of decisions the game will sell well at launch but if the attitude doesn't change it's not going to have the long term COD(crap game to me but sells well) success they seem to think it will. The game is not the open world action game that was promised, you have about no social features in-game, no private matches for the about 10% of people who play destiny mainly for pvp and no matchmaking for the 90% who would like to try the raids (about same % of people who don't go to forums for so-called organized gaming)

5 RepliesI don't think the game will be "dead" because they didn't add custom matches for PVP [b]AT LAUNCH[/b]. Firstly, they didn't say it wouldn't be added, they said it wouldn't be in the first version of the game. If it's really that big of a deal, don't buy the game. You can still PVP with friends, I did it in the beta. Just join their fireteam. 1v1 is a joke in a team work oriented game anyways. And I'm sure they will add Clan-matches in later. I'm personally glad they decided to work on core gameplay over custom pvp matches. Core gameplay is more important. Again, if it's really that big of a deal just don't get the game at launch. Wait until it's added. By your OP it'll be dead anyways so you won't be missing out.

I'm totally fine with this. The thing that attracted me most to this game was it's MMORPG qualities. FPS wasn't even a consideration.

It'll operate differently for competitive....your psn account is linked to a clan with a tag and such...if you wanna compete in anything you just go into the clan matchmaking I'm sure they will and/or play like wow does...rank up until you hit MLG and then go into special matchmaking

In the very same video that you linked they talked about how most of this is temporary. Comparing it to the original Halo vs. Halo 3. They will eventually add clan battles and private matches. But they need to build up everything that's there first.
