No private matches or clan matches (Source included)
Destiny has no private matches at all. Proof provided by this youtube video above, go to 1:15:00 he says private matches aren't in the game and there aren't clan battles either.
This company would be literally stupid to not add this.
How will clans work without custom games?
How will friends play against eachother?
How will any tournament exist?
How will people train for matchmaking?
How will 1v1s be possible?
Honestly without custom games this game is pretty dead, there will be no competitive scene at all because there won't be any chances to prove it. I've played Halo for years to know that custom games are something I do every day and is very important. While this isn't Halo, it's important.

Edit: Stop attacking a straw man and don't put words in my mouth based on what you assume. I bring up valid points. While you may not want a competitive scene in Destiny, it should be there. I don't think Bungie hired a competitive lead and said they would take steps towards making competitive gameplay for nothing. There is a ridiculous amount of narcissistic replies saying how they're thankful they don't have to deal with "competitive players" ruining their game. This is so pathetic.

I see a lot of people bitching about this,understandable. But guys, you can damn near guarantee they will add the features you "competitive" guys are yearning for. I know someone will say, "they should have included this in the 1st release". I believe they wanted to start off with something different, not hop right back into a halo mentality. The game will be far from dead, as some of you seem to predict. Over the course of 10 years ANYTHING can change.

This isn't new news. I believe Deej touched on this aorund E3. If you think this game will be dead because there's no custom games, perhaps you should stick with Halo.

[i]That[/i] is were you build your clans, meet each other, hone your skills, and learn to work together. In Strikes, Nightfall, and Raids. You take those experiences into PvP. You guys can't keep walking into this game with a Halo mindset.

I honestly don't have any problem with it. I'm playing the game to play the PvE and PvP modes like they were in the beta. If anyone complains about needing practice, go into PvE to hone your shooting, it's not that difficult. What I think is hilarious is that Bungie is trying something completely different here, and everyone is loosing their minds before they've played it long enough to know how they really feel. Chill out, play the game for a few months, then let them know how you feel. Personally I think it's almost better to cut private matches and make people play with each other. It's more enjoyable, and what the game is focused on anyway.

2 RepliesAfter watching the video at the time you specified, it's clear this is something they will eventually implement. We'll just have to be patient. If, after hearing this, you still think Destiny will be "pretty dead," then I don't think this is the game for you at this time. Doesn't seem like you'll enjoy it very much in its current form.

We failed as a PvP community. We didn't silence the carebears and things like this would only get worse. Destiny is headed down a very familiar path that most MMOs where these carebears originate from go, and that's failure. As for me stomping pubs boosting my kdr will be a walk In the park. Sorry for the newbs that will have no.shield from this

As soon as I heard no Lan I knew the competitive side would die slowly, and now that there's not even a private lobby. I'll be surprised if this game can hold it's own till DLC. Also what a great way to slowly kill off a ton of your fanbase Bungie.

It does feel out of touch with what Bungie had brought to gaming with the Halo series. Though Destiny is a different game, it carries many aspects of the Halo lineage. Bungie does want to separate from Halo for good reason, I do understand that, but not having custom/private matches available for clan matches (an integral part of the Destiny scene and promotion), learning the maps, playing with friends in a more relaxed setting, training others how to play in a competitive setting, etc., etc.............makes you wonder "Why is it not here?". Bungie has made a series of deliberate decisions about communication in game, custom games, raids, fire team sizes and size of the 'open world' areas available. In the end, time will tell how well this works for the players. I will still buy the launch game as I did enjoy the beta, but time will tell if there is enough content for the various groups, ie, FPSes - MMOers - RPGers - etc, to hold their interest over time. I am willing to give Bungie and Destiny my full attention and play it hard before I go making up my mind about what the game means to me or how it feels. Maybe just try to let go of Halo and all other games and play Destiny the way it is. Shit, it is a whole new game regardless of what it draws comparisons to and what they had made before.

I'm pro Custom Game in other shooters, but not Destiny. They'd have to implement something through the story that allows guardians to have "free time" in the crucible maps or a system that only allows "Forge maps" to be played privately.

10 RepliesDid Borderlands have private matches? I never played it so I don't know. I would think in a co-op "open world" type RPG, it would be difficult to impossible to cater to fans of private match/duels. Unless they didn't award you anything for playing them. Otherwise people would cheat to get the harder to attain loot. That would make the game less special for everyone. Halo's and CoD's could get away with private matches because of the lack of persistent world and RPG elements.

I know it's not Halo, but the most fun I've ever had in a game is with Halo 2. Every Friday my buddies and I would play 16 player LAN parties. I really hope a patch comes out.

I honestly am looking forward to the pve much more than the pvp, and listen to me I hated cod with a passion, but honestly the custom matches were about the only fun I had with pvp, I also really liked zombies. but c'mon you guys seriously think bungie isn't going to allow for custom games if they want this to be a long running game? they will implement this I promise you. and please stop attacking anyone who disagrees, people shouldnt be said such horrible this to just because they disagree. ps- any one for a survival game mode?

Me and my friend argue all the time about whos the best and when we do we take it to a private match or duel or whatever is in that game now all we'll be able to do is see who can score higher which isn't really a good measure of skill since you could be just getting tons of free kills off I bad people
