While it is a nice feature, like others have said this is one of the DRM features the xbox one was to have at launch that everyone raged about that was removed so I could foresee MS releasing it around the same time to negate any assumed advantage people may try to create in the continual flaming console war.

  • The difference is that ps4 doesn't have all the restrictions Microsoft had at the xbox one reveal

  • Don't need the all the restrictions for some of the options. When grouped as a whole package, they will. This is just one step toward what MS offered.

  • It's true. You can't use the digital loaner unless online with the person that has the game and only 2 hours, those are restrictions. With MS that didn't matter, you just had to check in every 24 hours and be one of 10 friends. Two sets of restrictions by two companies in two different ways...

  •
With MS that didn't matter, you just had to check in every 24 hours
That's the point. You had to do this regardless of whether or not you used the feature

  • The difference being that the same restrictions that Xbox was up front about, are still going to be implemented. Sony is doing it slowly piece by piece. Where Xbox just wanted to do it all at once and get it done right away. Eventually the company will have to do something to protect their games licenses. Then all those restrictions will start showing up on both platforms...

For the foreseeable future you won't be required to check in online once a day (and be locked out of your games if you don't). There's also no invasive camera that's always on (which the kinect was until people bitched) that I don't want, will never use, and costs me $100 extra.

  • The original DRM from MS you COULD sell and trade your digital games, as well as your hard copies. Again, there is nothing that says you would be locked out of your games, it's just a rumor. On the MS site it says that if you fail to check in may cause issues with licensing and digital content, not that you couldn't play off line. It was the lack of detail going either way that caused the rumors.

It wasn't a misunderstanding that caused the Xbone's negative reception, it was the blatant anti-consumer policies. I don't what else to say. I don't know how to make it clearer. I gave you the word of god on a silver platter, and yet you still deny it and dismiss it as a rumor or misunderstanding. This is my last reply to you on this subject (Which clearly you know nothing about). We're done here.

That's post, you need the pre.
While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.
No its not required 24 hours a day, but it was required once every 24 hours. If you didn't check in every 24 hours you could not play your games.

  • True but like someone said below that this is a good thing. When xbox or sony does something positive both will gain from it. It will make Microsoft implement this just like they did when sony started free games every month.
