Love the arrogance here. These are the facts 1.we don't know how the universe was created 2. Religion brings hope to many people and causes many good things(and some bad) even if it may not be true 3. Atheist have a god complex ironically and think there opinion is fact and are generally worse people(no offense to the nice ones out there) Truth is god may or may not exist and we have absolutely no way of knowing.

  • That comment is an exercise in hypocrisy.

  • How is saying there's no way of knowing hypocritical or even arrogant? There's good arguments for both sides but what they all lack is evidence.

I was referring to number 3. Making blanket statements based on internet behavior is pretty dumb. Pretending that you know what other people think is pretty arrogant, also indicative of a bit of a God complex itself. As far as 1 and 2 2 is whatever. It's trivially true. 1. I have a bit of problem with based on epistemic and empirical grounds. A person can acknowledge that they don't absolutely know something doesn't exist and still be totally consistent in stating that they doubt it.(ie. an atheist) For example I can't be totally sure there isn't an invisible tea kettle in orbit around Uranus(this is an epistemic fact) but I'm sure you have no problem with the fact that I'm almost positive there isn't one(based on Occam's razor, lack of evidence, what have you). Also the part about evidence. The evidence that there isn't a god is that you wouldn't find evidence there is a god. This however is impossible because for evidence of an unfasifiable to tend to zero one would have to complete an infinite number of studies and find no evidence.
disclaimer: I think people should believe what they believe. They have that right. However an individual is totally justified in being skeptical a claim if the arguments/evidence/what have you are not up to snuff.
• I do get where your coming from, however most of my encounters with atheist have been in real life and I'm sure there are some good people but most of the time I've been wronged or screwed over by them and that has left a sour taste in my mouth. As for Christians most of them have this overwhelming sense of morality and are far better people than I could ever be though I am sure there are some bad Christians as well. But to address your counter for #1 have you ever met an atheist who says I doubt there is a god? I personally never have because they act so definitive in their answer that they act like there's no chance of him existing which is just not true.

  • Excuse me if I dismiss your anecdotes. Have you asked them what would change their minds? Anyone that's put any thought into their stance would probably say something along the lines of, "Evidence." As for the the fact there are no atheists that say, "I doubt there is a god". If you were to tell me you could fart and knock down my barn I would ask you to prove it (not on my barn of course). If you couldn't prove it I would then be justified in considering your claims false. A lot of atheists/skeptics(i really just consider my self a well practiced skeptic) will say that something is false if they aren't convinced as to its truth. Shorthand if you will.

  • You do make a good point however I say that humanity doesn't know enough to make claims of the origin of the universe as our collective knowledge is predicted to be less than one percent. I personally will just accept that I don't know the answer and probably never will because of the scale of what this whole issue talks about. I'll treat my death as if it's the end and hope to be pleasantly surprised if god does exist but I won't expect it

  • We know for a fact that the origin of the Universe is the Big Bang. We even have a sound recording of it.

  • That's still a theory and even then we have no idea how the Big Bang occurred. Also sound travels at a slower speed than light and needs a medium to travel upon so no we don't have a recording of Big Bang

  • ^Here's the sound recording. Gravity is also "just a theory". The Big Bang most likely came from nothing because nothing is a very unstable thing (particles pop in and out of existence in the space between an atom's core and its electrons for example).

  • This recording is a representation of the Big Bang and not the Big Bang itself. While it does add credible evidence that the Big Bang occurred it doesn't necessarily prove it did. It was still a very interesting article and I thank you for sending it my way.

  • I wouldn't even say it's one percent. . .unknown unknowns and what not. Same here.
