We find various items during our experiences throughout the world, most of them we just sell for a meager amount of glimmer or some other form of currency. However, my question is: will we be able to craft weapons, equipment, and maybe add enchantments to armor and weapons?
If not, would the community like to see this implemented in future Destiny games. The ability to craft and enchant powerful weapons and sets of armor using elements and weapon parts, ect. we find throughout the game. Possibly even expanding crafting to temporary buffs, like a quickness potion but science fiction, or be able to lace our bullets with poison temporarily as in many RPGs.
Anyways just thoughts! Main point is about crafting, is it in the game? If not would you like to see it someday?
EDIT: two arguments against crafting being in the game are: We don't need it in Destiny. Well that is probably true but you don't want to start that argument cause it never ends until you strip the game down to pong. Secondly, the 'earn your stuff' philosophy. Well, I like this idea, so as a solution, have Fallen and Hive leaders/ bosses drop the materials you need in surplus. Then go into orbit and smith your weapon/ armor/ ammo pack/ anything (Bungie is creative).
EDIT: I have been surprised and mildly disappoint that people are against adding something that is interesting and would make Destiny just that much more in depth.
People's problems with crafting include:
people making better equipment by crafting rather than earning it by fighting a boss. Well, for one crafting is earning. Two, you simply make exotic and legendary armor not craftable. Three (already stated above), make the necessary items for making weapons mainly available by destroying bosses/ major and ultras.
Another argument against making Destiny a more in-depth game is the, 'I don't care for crafting' argument (the thinnest an yet most common argument on any forum). Well if you don't, then Bungie could make crafting, as it is in most RPGs, an option, not necessary, so you would never have to craft. but those who would enjoy spending time collecting material to make an auto rifle or a helmet and possibly name it, this would workout fine!
My own argument for crafting:
so far explore mode is boring and uneventful and grinding to the max. We know that this may not be the case for the September release, but it is so far very boring. crafting weapons could be one of many things they could add to this game far in the future to give explore mode some purpose.

I think crafting would be an amazing feature to add. The gun shouldn't be too good like blue at the max. The price should be a lot of materials and gun parts. If you had to disable an exotic or two I'd do it. If you could adjust certain stats of a gun and change colors that'd be fine. Its just cool to know that no one has a gun like yours. Sadly I don't believe its in because we saw nothing of it in the beta or alpha. Hopefully a dlc but it is highly unlikely.

for legendary and exotic weapons you will need items like weapon parts and other items you have found through looting to construct those weapons
-
Crafting is absolutely necessary to the long-term success of Destiny as an interesting game to play.
-
Craft anything you want here

I like crafting in games, so yes. I would expect crafted gear to have a different look than other gear, so the gear Bungie creates is still special and unique.
-
Destiny is a first person shooter, not an RPG. So no, wouldn't care to see it.

Edited by TheRealNeenja: 8/12/2014 10:26:49 PMCrafting would be cool, but it won't work in the game as-is. It loses a lot of its intrinsic value when there is no player-based ingame economy. A big part of the motivation for crafting is as either a moneymaking skill or the ability to craft items for other players. Neither of those is possible. Thus, it's just an extra barrier to getting an item. However, there have already been some items data-mined that indicate something similar to quest chains to create weaponry. http://destiny.gamepedia.com/Darkness-infused_Pulse_Rifle

Actually there is crafting and its required for end game. You know when you disassembled gear, and got random materials? Those are the crafting mats used to upgrade endgame loot, according to theories I've read. I'll edit this post with sources when I find them again.
-
I think it might make the game more complicated, always looking for parts and filling up your inventory. i just dont think it would work with the reward system thats already in place, maybe you get parts to bring to the vanguard or gun smith and use them as currency? or to make a general print of a weapon and get something like it.

There is crafting in Destiny. Link above.
-
There is a difference between creating and upgrades... Upgrades are in the game... Crafting... No thank you... One it promotes trading. 2. ITT can break the game like it does in Skyrim and Kingdom of Amalur (sp) ... 3. You earn your gear... Not make it
-
I like crafting but destiny uses the shoot and loot reward system were its basically luck based if u added crafting in the normal sense it will be a shortcut but u could have it clan based making your crafting weapons/armor a more team based activity which ends up with a clan uniform which will mean leader chooses look and what to research or build eather way will work. This will make clans feel alot more team based.

I'm all for it. If this is implemented right it could add a great level of depth.
-
I'm a Warlock. I already do crafting. 'Which crafting?' i hear you ask. 'That's right!' I reply.

There should be

I think crafting would be great, if done correctly. They should make armor and weapons that are created through crafting only. This would eliminate the " earn your gear" argument and allow for some interesting gear. And it should also allow us to craft ammo refills on the fly/ I can't tell you how many times I used up all my ammo packs against that damn devil walker. This would allow us to create ammo in game, and also keep the players actively searching each map/area/planet to it's farthest reaches. No trading, I don't think trading in this kind of game would work. Players would abuse it. So long as the crafting only creates crafting exclusive gear, that would give each player the same chance to find and harvest each material. The potency of the gear shouldn't be too large or too small. Crafted gear should be available only in the first 10 levels, after you gain the LVL 10 gear, you will only use crafting to creat Ammo packs, and the items that give extra Glimmer/Experience for a set limit of time. This will give everyone a chance to find and use this items in game.

I want this.
-
This point may have been made before and if so I apologize. But I noticed in the beta that while breaking down weapons and armor into glimmer I sometimes received Weapon Parts from weapons and Hadronic Essence from my Warlock armor. While I didn't see any use for these in the beta, the descriptions lead me to believe there is some form of crafting present in the full game. Whether it's simple upgrades to existing weapons or the ability to also combine parts to create brand new items I'm not entirely sure. But I doubt Bungie built random useless items that serve no purpose other than throwing them away. It's more likely some form of crafting exists in the full release.
-
The only reason I can see to not have crafting is to support bungie's idea of making loot mean something. If you can just craft some awesome chestpiece or gun, then it takes away from how special awesome loot would be. The stories bungie wants you to tell would all simply be finding materials and crafting it. As I am in full support of the importance of loot, i"ll have to say no to crafting.
-
Actually I don't want crafting because then it makes having legendary and exotic weapons with their own buffs pointless if you can just creat your own better buffs. It makes it pointless to go out and find those exotic weapons when you can just create stuff.
-
I recall while playing my Warlock in the beta that the description for one of the items, Hadronic Essence, I think, said it was used in "Warlock Field Weaving" or something.
-
i think i read somewhere that the ships will be customizable. I don't know how. I also noticed the weapon parts, and spin metal. Spin metal must be for faction reputation gain, but how we will use gun parts, is still beyond me. Because most gun upgrades cost me some glimmer i noticed.
-
Well, perhaps a durability/repair system on guns and armor via weapon parts
-
There is a crafting system, sometimes when you disassemble your weapons you get weapon parts which you can use with other materials to upgrade the weapons you keep.
-
I would like it because it can show the creativity of the community and it can expand the range of armor and weapons so there is even a lesser chance of you looking the same as others!
