Why has no one discussed this...

Is anyone else disappointed that the PVP limit on players is 12? After playing BF4, anything less than 12v12 seems very last gen and slow paced. Even killzone had 24 player matches. At the very least have a big team battle game type like in Halo. While 3v3 and 6v6 can be fun and challenging, sometimes its just fun to jump into chaos and see who comes out on top. Anyone else agree? Some of you guys seem to think I'm comparing BF4 and Destiny directly. I'm merely using it as an example. I do not want 64 player matches. I do not think every map should allow 24 players. All I'm asking for is a couple maps that can support 24ish players. Such as, Halos big team battles did. Or even CODs Big team deathmatch.

The maps we have already seen are quite obviously not built for such a thing.

    • I still remember the sheer insanity of Defiance's ShadowWar PvP games. Trust me, give people that level of control over their equipment/weapons/powers and have them all slug it out it is VERY hard to pull off correctly. now what I WOULD like to see is massive Clan Vs. Clan duels. you'd have a cohesion or sense of purpose that general PvP lacks, so there would be less chaos.

Did you ever play MAG? Sometimes a lot of people in a match is not a good thing lol. 6v6 just seems more classic, also I don't think Destiny is not trying to simulate war. After all the war in Destiny is not among players.

      • I really hope there are 2v2 and 3v3 game types. I think the smaller the numbers the more involved and more valuable and significant each player is to the outcome of the game. When you throw a lot of people into a game like this it will end up in a chaotic mess of supers. I hope they stick to the smaller teams. The only way I could see the larger team game types working out is if they were vehicle focused.

You sure you want to have 12 players taking turn using Supers on you? Edit: Also having 64 players in a game is chaotic and quite fun at times but it sure is difficult trying to balance things up. Look at the grenade/m320 spam, stingers etc. Dice is still trying to balance many things because it's just too hard to do it.

      • I just don't think there is much to discuss here at all. Yes I agree it's fun to jump into chaos in Battlefield (or used to be for me) no it isn't "last gen" to stick to 24 player games and under. Also lets keep in mind Destiny isn't really a completely next gen game, the engine had to be designed with older consoles in mind so it isn't as powerful as I would be solely on the newest consoles. 64 man games is a Battlefield trademark and it will stay that way, why? mainly because it's a gimmick specific to Battlefield. It was interesting for a long time to dream about how large the scale of battles could get and I can see how if you are a console player you are new to it but after a while (over the next couple sequels) you will find it getting old, slow and boring unless you love using the vehicles in Battlefield because that's where those team sizes work. In reality regardless if consoles can support this kind of play (even the new ones barely can on battlefield) right now the PC crowd is just more suited for it. You may find a group of players here or there with 20+ members who work together on a console but most people are more casual and without many large teams who would play it together it eliminates that competitive feeling where as on PC there are many groups that play together who can fill a team in 64 man matches you see them fairly often and that way when they meet it actually feels competitive. Look at how dragged out and boring almost half the conquest large games get on console, the majority of people end up sticking to the 32 mans anyway. Destiny isn't designed for matches 32 player just like none of the next Halo games will be or any other big franchise besides Battlefield really because other big games are interested in things like MLG and team tournaments, something that 32-64 players games don't really support and likely wont ever. Huge teams aren't suited to competitive play and definitely aren't next gen (many PC players have played in them since the beginning of the last console cycle) they are for chaotic fun and overwhelming with numbers which I agree with you is a good time if you are looking to jump in but not worth throwing a bunch of resources towards in a game that will try to focus on team competition. Not sure if the moon is one of the bigger maps in Destiny but I doubt it supports 24 players, if there are a few bigger maps we will could see 16 or 24 players on maps like the moon so they can make a playlist around it. It just isn't a game that needs to support bigger chaotic play there are more than enough people who prefer smaller competitive matches, it's where Bungie knows they can shine as a developer. I say they are right to leave any more risk taking to the sequels when they can redesign the engine specifically for the newest consoles.

        • Smaller numbers means more intimate control and roles to play rather then, "Go out and be crazy." which would also be a pain to try and get people coordinated. We have higher difficulty ratings because we need to play our roles good. As a Titan primary, I can't wait to see who will try different things within each role to get familiar during Strikes or Raids.

The reason no is discussing it is that it's old news. Both Bungie and the Bungie community have brought up the subject on several occasions. The final ruining: Bungie is more concerned with the quality of the experience than how big they can inflate their player count numbers to look impressive on advertisements. They want Destiny to feel "intimate". Like every player in an encounter, be it PvP or PvE, has a role to play and something to contribute. Whether you agree with that sentiment or not, doesn't matter. Destiny is was Destiny is. Bungie wants the game to have a certain vibe and tone to it.

        • I think that it's fine as it is. Having more players in a match does not automatically make it a better experience and all of the maps have been designed with twelve players in mind. I prefer smaller teams to larger ones in competitive shooters.

        • I feel 12v12 would be TOO much for this game. So many supers flying around, everybody had a method of fast transport at all times already, and there are no vehicles in the sandbox that require more than one player to operate to our knowledge, so the whole pvp so far is set up for small teams and solo battles. Perhaps if we get some 2 man or 3 man vehicles, such as the warthog in halo, and added some more team focussed elements onto the maps, then i could see amping up the player count. However a 6v6 is decently large number, and is perfect for the size and scale of the maps currently in destiny.

        • Personally, I like 6v6. I don't feel that this game requires massive PvP battles. Now, I do wish that the public events were MUCH larger with huge invading Fallen armies and 40+ Guardians strategically attempting to hold them back.

          • I've been away for about a month and a half and missed the beta; but after playing the alpha, I found that increasing the player count would honestly ruin the flow and fun of matches. Maybe an 8v8 game on the larger maps would work, but that's the limit with Destiny's gameplay

          • Let's throw in MAG while we're on the topic then. CoD and Battlefield are wimpy in comparison to the 128 player all out war. If you can't learn to appreciate the scale a game creator has set for the game then this is what you get. For the map size 6 on 6 is perfect. I know people want larger engagements they always will. They made the game with this many players intentionally we should just accept it and appreciate it without comparing it to other games.

          • When the players don't work as a team its basically just 1v1. Only you switch players. And in all the matches I played (admittedly not to many) nobody worked together. So it doesn't really matter.

I'm all for having 12 v 12, but I think that the maps we saw and the size of them certainly wouldn't make it viable. it wouldn't make the game any better if we had more. Yes it would be more chaos, but that's it.

                  • Umm no you compare BF4 and Destiny as Equals while they are two very different breeds of game. Can you kmaginr a mix of 32v32 hunters,TITANS and warlocks? While it sounds epic it would be an unbalanced chaotic mess with all those supers been thrown ASAP the game would crash trying to calibrate who threw, ground pounded or golden shot who all at the same time. Despite its customization and weapon variation BF4 is not an overly complex behemoth many of the guns do the same damage with a different skin on it and plus Bungies servers/network setup is miles different to EA/DICES it just wouldn't work

                    • Since using supers drops orbs of light for your team mates to charge their supers, 12 people dropping orbs for each other means a super gets used every 5 seconds and guns are next to pointless...

                      • Well they are making the game for last gen consoles so I can guarantee that is what's holding back the player count. The 360 and ps3 are the reason for a lot of destiny's flaws

                        • Not really. They have definitely suited the maps well to 6v6, never felt like I was too far from the action, unlike Battlefield on console and a lot of maps from CoD. (Looking at you MW3 Liberation). Right now, having 12v12 matches would just be too chaotic, you would be getting shot from ever conceivable angle, just wouldn't be fun. If they do increase the player count, 9v9 IMO should be the max
