It always confused me how some churches turn away "sinners". Jesus' philosophy is that the church should be the one place in the world where everyone, regardless of sin, is welcome and loved.
Turning away a grieving family seems remarkably un-Christlike.

Actually, there are multiple passages that say if anyone in the church continually sins, is unrepentant of it and refuses to listen to other members, you must ask them to leave. Not everyone is welcome. I'm not sure where you heard that they are but it's not true. Sure you're welcome if you want to try to change but if you are a member of a church and have no intention of repenting of your sin, the Bible commands that you will be asked to leave.
