SHOW BUNGIE WE DO NOT WANT A TRADE SYSTEM

No I don't want a trade system

Yes I want a trade system

Destiny is without a doubt the best game I've ever played, you guys have nailed it. There is only one thing that could cheapen this amazing game and potentially turn players away ... a player to player trade system. Bungie community, join me and speak up about this pressing issue that has the potential to cheapen this stunning game. Do you value the hard work it takes to earn cool gear? Or do you not value the hard work it takes? "Become Legend", this tag line says it all. It insinuates that you will work to develop your character and thus work towards becoming a legend. We don't want to trade so that we look like a legend. The way the gear looks in destiny is stunning. When you see someone cruise past you in the tower with a sweet piece of gear, you know he's worked to achieve it. That is an amazing feat for a game developer, to create such awesome looking kit that everyone wants. If Bungie implement a player to player trade system this will be meaningless. The whole experience of earning something special is cheapened. To think that a noob who's played for a week and hit 20 could be given gear from his highly experienced and dedicated mate is a sad thought. All of a sudden the last two months I spent earning that same piece of gear are worthless. The pride I had for my equipment, lost. There are many of us who experienced this on games like World of Warcraft, Borderlands and Diablo and felt that it ruined the game. So much that I stopped playing games that I used to love. I would like to quote a few bungie developers from the video "out here in the wild" in the hope that if enough people vote on this, if our voice is strong enough, we can get bungie to make a firm stance against a trade system. Christopher Barrett, art director "the number one priority was to make a world that people wanted to be in, something that you want to go back to and you want to explore". If there is a trade system it will cheapen the game and people will lose excitement about going back and exploring. Luke Smith, design lead "you're going to see a guy wielding the cudgel of zanthor or the fate of all fools or whatever crazy names the writers come up with for these weapons and armor, you're going to understand where they came from and what they went through to get there". Man does this quote sum up my argument. With a player to player trade system we will NOT understand what anyone has been through to get their gear. In fact, we won't even know how long they will have been playing the game. *Edit: A lot of great counter arguments have been made on this post and I should clarify. I am certainly not opposed to a well done trade system e.g. if items could only be traded for equal level items, or include a BOA or BOP system for high tier gear. I was referring to the AH and gold trading/farming/selling with WOW. The item giving and duping in Borderlands. I should have been more specific and not so general and I didn't realise this post would attract so much attention. I still strongly believe that any system where people can give loot or trade for glimmer or parts would be bad idea. But if done right, a trade system would be great. SECOND EDIT: a lot of people are complaining about the "terrible loot system", just FYI they DID just say they're patching tha said system. We have to see the changes that come out of it. Also the game hasn't even been out for three weeks!!!!!! To me it's expected in a game like this that you have to play for ages to get good loot. 3 weeks is nothing.

  • I've paid my dues in mmo's, and I've suffered through Borderlands 2's BROKEN drop rate. Had it not been for duping and trading I would have never bought four expansion packs. So there's a cautionary tale here: exclusive to the point of impossible makes elite gear not worth the trouble for many players. I remember killing Terramorphous (a 4 player raid) over 90 times and not getting any of the gear I wanted - that would be heads, the shotgun etc... Good for thought

    • Good news: no trade system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQKp0VcA1Vw Deej says they want you to earn your gear not say, as said late into the interview, "Hey where did you get that weapon?" "Angry joe gave it to me." So no trade system, you will have to earn your way regardless.

      • You want something? Earn it. I know polls on B.net are not accurate, but the "No's" have it by a thousand votes. I think it's safe to say the majority do not want trading.

      • Nothing wrong with a trade system for normal items, I do however think if the gear is epic and requires raiding to get a hold of then no you can't trade it!

If they Implement a crafting system like it looked like they were going to do, I think it would be alright to trade JUST mats. I Disassembeled alot of past cap gear and got sapphire fiber and weapon parts and armor plating. Even if the crafting system goes as far as adding an additional upgrade to a non legendary weapon, trading those materials I think would be fair enough.

      • The items you work so hard to get, those "rare" items.. they don't have a worth without a value. Think about it.

      • I think materials and items that are rare or lower don't run the risk of breaking the game's goals if they could be traded.

        • I thought trading would be fine at first. Especially when I go from my ps3 system to Xbox one so I can play with my brothers, and they could give me weapons I would have had on my ps3 system as my stuff will not transfer over. Once I read this article I was against it. Even though I already would have put my time and effort in this game, I would just put more time in to replay everything and gain it back. So no trading for me, please.
undefined
Yeah I don't want some loser who isn't as good as me, and couldn't earn the armor I have, walking around with it on. just because he happens to have a friend who was good enough to earn what he couldn't. If I'm a great player, I want to look like it because I actually am a great player. not because I traded to look great( when I really suck) but because I earned it. I want people to see me and think wow that guys a badass and honestly know I'm a badass because there's no possible way I could have traded for what I have equipped.
THE ARCH ANGEL HAS SPOKEN, KNELL BEFORE MY POWER.
If they had to add trading then only blue green and white items should be trade able. You shouldn't be able to trade legendaries or exotics. In borderlands I remember me and two other friends were grinding away in our own borderlands games to get a legendary weapon the 'Infinity Pistol' and I got it almost straight away, instantly it was the case of dupe it for me man. But i didn't want to because it would remove all value from the game. But it didn't matter because the next day i found out that they had joined some public game only to be given every legendary and hacked gun in existence off of some random modder. That's why i like the borderlands game when they just release cos there isnt any epic guns or hacks roaming around just yet. Pretty naf imo

            • I completely agree with you, but don't worry. I read a post similar to this one last month and DeeJ had commented himself "You will need to earn gear yourselves, guardians". So I'm sure that implies there will be no trade systems ;)

            • Instead of a trade system have a betting system over sparrow or ship races. Like gambling for glimmer or gear of equivalent value. I really wanted this to be the arena for oblivion as their way of incorporating MP but as I just fails gambling isn't a good thing to put on a T rating box

            • A lot of Destiny would be pointless if there was a trading system. Why have to build the reputation amongst the various factions, vanguard, crucible, and cryptarch? Why have to obtain a certain amount of vanguard and crucible marks? Why have levels requirements at all? Or obtain certain amounts of Motes of Light? I think the time, money, and resources it took to develop all of that in the first place would be wasted. Why pay someone to develop and code that? Plus, wouldn't it essentially destroy the replay factor of this game? As far as we know there are five planets/destinations with one map per planet. This most likely translates to ten or fewer story missions per map, three or fewer strikes per map, one explore point per map, and most of all one raid in the game, at launch. Play the Nightfall Strikes and Raid a few times, get some legendary/exotic loot, trade for the items that you wanted and then what? All you have left is the Crucible to play, which turns Destiny into Titanfall, as far as amount of content to replay. It just really seems like they intend on getting you addicted to loot grinding and playing the Strikes and Raid over and over again to get better and different loot (which I really enjoyed from the Alpha and Beta). Yes, you'll get duplicates but you get weapons parts from dismantling them, which you need to buy weapon upgrades of rare/legendary/exotic weapons. To me, it just seems like a lot of Destiny was methodically built around not having some type of trade system. Another thought, games that do have some type of trading system are MASSIVE in terms of players, playable area(s), and things to do. Destiny is not an MMO. They just borrowed some elements. At most, there are 16 people in a server. The matchmaking is seamlessly done in the background while you duck into a building. Destiny, although big, isn't that big compared to most RPGs. Lastly, I'm not saying that trading systems break all games or the items of trade will be undervalued in any way. Just the longevity of Destiny if they expect it to last ten years. Bungie is really banking on that replay factor through the handful of content, at launch, that we know will be in the game and whatever expansions they have planned. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. Time will tell though.

              • I strongly support no trading. Diablo 3 became infinitely better when they took out the trading and auction house. I think that the chase for awesome items and gear entice the players to keep playing. Why strike and raid when you can just buy it from someone on an external website or with in-game glimmer? I think that my character and gear would mean that much more to me if there was no way to improve them except by my own hard work. But that being said, I am simply one person and I would never act like my opinion is the opinion of everyone. I am going to love this game no matter what, but I would love it a little more without a trading system. Can't wait!

              • No.... If there was one only way I could think it could be even half way fair is if say at the end of a strike there's a 30second countdown.... You could trade the loot you got for loot your friend got... But ONLY a trade with what you both got on the same mission.... But no trade would be best
