Having two options for raids - one for matchmaking and one for friends and allowing players to play their own way would be preferable, but Bungie seems to be suggesting raids are only possible with friends because they are too difficult - random strangers are apparently too dense. By making the difficulty of raids configurable, providing an initial test as a mediator for the player's ability, or making the short-term problems negligible, they can increase the accessibility of raids and give players the option to play the way they want. I imagine Bungie's 6-friend-requirement for raids worked brilliantly in the office but when applied to the real world and to real people who have schedules, work, and families this entry-barrier I suspect will pose a significant problem.

  • This is specifically what I would like to avoid. There will be many different things to do in destiny. If someone has work, family and personal things that get in the way they will still have plenty of content to explore. In your idea do you still get the same reward for a less difficult raid? Or are the rewards adjusted for your proposed difficulty shift. It's too much of a slippery slope to me. A little nerf here a little nerf there. Where does it end?

  • Lol I'm not even asking for a nerf. I just want the option to pug without having to go to the forums. If they had general chat or any nonfireteam way to talk or chat you wouldn't have this issue. And like he said this was decision that probably sounded awesome on paper and in their staff meetings, but so was excluding chat features in a social game lol.

  • Now I can agree with you that there needs to be better tools for the community. Chat channels, mic chat or whatever. It's specifically MM I am opposed to. If you have a group of people in say a chat get together and raid I'm ok with that. Only because while random you can gather more information. Info like how much time each person has. How experienced they may be. How is there character built. All is very useful information for the raid. I people just click a button for MM they will have less motivation to care Imo. That leads to a whole set of new problems. Like keeping people from dropping group at the slightest sign of failure. I for one would have rather at least had a slight bit of collaboration before taking on a raid. Instead of being in a room where people drop instantly. If you add MM you will make It more likely someone will just drop and drop and drop until they find a worthy group. It is so easy to get grouped up why waste time with someone you don't feel can complete the raid? Now there are 5 people left waiting for someone to join. Now 2 more people drop. It's a vicious cycle where at the first sign of adversity it's easier to leave and try again than to push through it.
