I think that third slot is for when we lock in a subclass. I don't remember exactly where but Bungie has said that when you lock in a subclass you get a boost to your stats and then a copy of that subclass will be created so you can continue to experiment with that subclass.

  • No, you can see the option to lock a subclass when you go to its skill tree. It's the last icon with a little lock on it. The third square is probably another subclass.

  • I know there's the option to lock it in the skill tree. What I'm saying is that when you lock in a subclass you get a copy of that subclass. My guess is that last slot will be reserved for the copy that is made when you lock in a subclass. "Destiny allows you to freely swap your ability choices, but according to Green there comes a point when you can lock them in. This gives your Guardian benefits, such as a stat boost.
