Too many people are coming from CoD and Halo franchises and are expecting all the simple matchmaking, but that's not how an MMO functions, especially with the RPG elements. forming a wow aq40 or mc raid took hours of just prep work and then you had to actually hold the raid together as you progressed though the HOURS it took to down one or two bosses and then come back another day to progress more. I agree with everything you said, and I'm glad you wrote it all out

  • Key phrase: "took hours" Yes, that is why I prefer matchmaking. I just wanna play. If I lose, I lose. Nuff said.

  • The thing is, it's not going to take that long to find 5 more players without class requirements in destiny. It would take like 10 mins

  • Ur still playing with randoms. You do not even know if they will quit on you half way anyways. Not so much different from matchmaking, except u don't have to go through too many hoops to ask for a fireteam.

  • It's true that someone could lie, or have to leave still even after promising to stay, however they are less random, as you can check gear and stats on their profiles before starting, as well as form cooperative relationships within a clan, like in any guild. Once you work together often enough, you function better as a fire team and know eachothers strengths and weaknesses.

  • Once again, u have to check their gear first (waste of time if I just wanna play). If matchmaking is done correctly, bungie can have requirements for matchmaking.

  • Automated gear check requirements could become too strict, dependent on quality and level of gear, armor and stats. Lower quality players may not be able to find a group or higher quality players may not be able to. If you have all epics and other players have whites, you may never find a group. However if bungie takes it into account that if you aren't finding players in your gear range and then you get placed with white quality gear players then players may complain about that.

  • True, but this goes back to the regular matchmaking. U have two choices: A. Join with friends B. Play matchmaking U r not restricted to one choice. And people who complain about balancing does not know what they r talking about.

  • That is true, I believe that bungie may want players to have to put forth the effort to make your own group in order to get the rewards from a raid instead of just matchmaking and getting awesome stuff just handed to them

  • Tell me, what is the probability of a matchmake group to win a raid? Slim. So the ones that do win deserve the loot as much as the group who has friends. It is not given to us, we earned it.

  • It's hard to tell the probability of a match made group finishing a raid, because if matchmaking was made, people would likely be grouped with players near their gear level. Higher geared groups would likely be able to finish easier than lower geared. Also after launch, many of the less serious players will leave and not likely be raiding, so more skilled players would likely be participating in raids and have a higher probability of finishing. I'm not saying you wouldn't deserve the loot, but there are many factors to take into account when trying to form a matchmade group in a skill and gear based game. With CoD, BF, or Halo, all players have about the same gear provided to them, so it's all focuses on skill. Since destiny changes your characters strength based on gear, which is earned and not provided, it would be much more difficult to form a balanced group that has a chance to win.

I don't see how that is unfair. I also don't see how that is different from "finding friends on the forum". Everybody starts out with weak loot. Strong loot does not necessarily mean u win, sure there is a better chance, but skill has a major factor also. Also, even if you want to party up, most of the time they will evaluate ur loot level. It's the same process.

  • You can get better loot (greens and some blues) from just doing enough 3 man strikes. Players that spend the time gearing up for a raid should have a greater potential to get a group for a raid. Looking for a group on the forum, you can evaluate a players performance by looking at their stats in strikes or missions/pvp and see if they meet whatever your criteria is, so it's not solely based on gear. I'm not saying you are wrong at all, it would just be very complex for reasonably equal matchmaking to be created

  • Me too, u have valid reasons, and I understand. We r going into balancing territory, however. Bungie is an experienced company and I believe they will find a balance towards matchmaking, loot, and communication. If they put in matchmaking, I will be pleased. If they don't, I will find a way around it. I just want more options.

  • Hey, dot get me wrong. I am not forcing you to believe me, but I just want you to know matchmaking isn't all that bad if done correctly. Thanks for the intellectual debate. See ya.

  • Yeah you are right, there. But it would have to be done really correctly and really balanced is all. Cya round

  • If you "just wanna play" and you're referring to raiding, then you've already failed the raid. Raids are not what many of you apparently think they are.

  • Wow, u really think I do not know what raiding consists of? What's ur basis? Anyways, I want a challenge from raids. I want to play with randoms. And maybe some of those randoms can become long term friends. Who knows. I want an efficient way of getting into raids. I do not want an unnecessary barrier. Don't forget, matchmaking can require certain leveled items.

  • Destiny is not an MMO, and I'm pretty sure its raids won't be as complex as WoW's are.

  • Even though when you play in the world, the amount of players per region are limited, making like a shared world shooter, it's community is still large enough to constitute an MMO. Just because there aren't 1000 players in an area at a time doesn't make it not an MMO, since everyone is connected to a shared server (per console) and can join anyone at anytime. Of course the raids won't be as intricate, as you won't need any amount of certain classes to finish one, like you needed tanks/heals/dps in other MMOs; however there is still a need for skill and ability, and the likelihood of getting a good premade match made group isn't high. It's much better to join a clan to raid

  • And giving people the option for matchmaking wouldn't hurt anything. The ones who wouldn't want to risk failure with a random group wouldn't have to deal with it, because it would be a choice.

  • If that were the case, Call of Duty or battlefield would be called MMO's, but they aren't. An MMO is defined by how many people you can share a world with at once. In destiny, that's a max of 16 players, and not massive in any sense.

  • The reason CoD or Battlefield aren't MMOs is because there is not any "open world" or "social hubs". There are only the competitive matches. Anyway I don't disagree that there could be the option of matchmaking, but if bungie did that, there would no doubt be hundreds of complaints that everyone that they group with is a noob, or sucks, or there should be consequences for leaving early. It's a double edged sword

  • What distinguishes MMO's from other online games is the amount of players sharing a world at once. That's why the original guild wars was not labeled an MMO.
