        • Don't do it you'll just end up as a pawn for nothing. Go to the nearest VA hospital and talk to vets see if they would do it all over again. WAKE up

If your serious about joining the marines then you better start conditioning yourself mentally. No matter what your recruiter tells you, you cannot sign up to be recon, scout sniper, or any of that high speed low drag stuff. You will need to put in time in the infantry before any of that will be an option for you. The bungie forums are not really a place for military/boot camp advice. I would get tied into the forums at http://www.grunt.com/corps/forum/ Good luck fire breather. 1st Bn 2nd MAR 0341 OIF veteran

        • Based on your leanings it looks like the only experience you have with the military is from video games.

Combat veteran of the surge into Afghanistan 2010. I spent most of my deployment attached to STA as support SAW Gunner. After which I was delegated to be acting Squad Leader of 13 other Marines after the SL was wounded in action. I had a family emergency which interrupted my attendance to SSBC Scout Sniper Basic Course. But I passed the STA Indoc with flying colors. I took an intro course to SERE School in which I would have attended after SSBC if I went. My closest friend is in 2nd Recon I believe Alpha co. His name is Sgt. James Schwarz. I know as much as a man could possibly know about STA (don't say scout sniper) everything. Anything I don't know. I CAN know because my network runs deep. Everyone from JTACs, Battalion Gunner (CWO4 Curre), shit even Gen Kelly..... CO of US South Com..... haha. He personally awarded me for wounds sustained in Afg. I'm a -blam!-ing humble dude. But I felt it was needed to included my history so u know I'm not wasting ur time. Send me a private message. I'll tell you whatever the -blam!- you wanna hear/know/don't wanna know etc. I'm blunt and say it how it is

Don't do combat engineer. They're -blam!-ing POGs just like Administration Marines. I am ALMOST certain you cannot enlist as a DI. 98% SURE. 03xx is what you will most likely get. It's tough getting 21 guaranteed contract nowadays. You'll go to boot camp. The. Infantry Training Battalion in which you'll be split into the other branches of 03. Machine gunner, TOW (oh three motor T....lolllll), assault man, rifleman. Honestly doesn't -blam!-ing matter. Cuz u need to be a SME on all that. One thing I was taught early on is to learn the job of your own, the one above yours, and familiarize yourself with all acquainted fields. Haha and don't expect promotions. I'm a hard head and stick up for my junior Marines. So I got in trouble a lot. Yeah they put me down to PFC E-2. But I'm still rocking a stack of medals heavier than some -blam!-ing POG SNCO. Hahahahaha. Good times. I even had my junior guys who were E-3 stand at parade rest when addressing me, and always address me as "Private First Class".... lmao. I miss those days

              • I once was a young man who joined the US military (army) and I wish I had known what it was really like beforehand. It is not my intention to discourage you but to rather tell you the way it really is. Pretty much everything you know or have been promised is a lie. I seen a lot of badass dudes cry in boot camp alone and it's nothing to be ashamed of. It will be the most difficult thing you have ever done in your life... No sleep, the true meaning of physical exhaustion, horrible food, 2min cold showers and treated lower than low. I might point out that just because you volunteered doesn't mean you can quit and trust me you will want to quit at some point. After a few weeks you'll be numb to the abuse and out before you know it but you'll be different person. You will NOT be doing the job you signed up for. Say you want to be a communications guy right? Well there are thousands of others who signed up for the same job monthly and only a handful of positions. The training for said job is a joke and is not recognized by any college. You will do whatever they say do from cutting grass to checking cars for IED's. You need to realize that it is not a coach/player relationship with your NCO's etc. Most do not want the assignment they are own and will flex their rank to make you do whatever they please. Your stuff will more than likely be stolen from other soldiers/marines at some point. There are a lot of no where to turn types that would probably be in jail if not the military. I just want you to be aware that times have changed and it will be nothing like anything you've seen in movies or that a recruiter may have told you. Don't get me wrong I have a great deal of respect for those who serve and I still feel a sense of pride when I see my uniform hanging in the back of my closet but if I could have done it over knowing everything I know now I probably would have went to college instead. Just make sure it is really what you want to do. Every guy I know pretty much went in wanting to be Special forces or something of the nature but I only know one that actually made it. Either way, stay strong, good luck.

                    • Seems like a load of patriotic bull coming from your mouth. You do have some good points but you do not need to talk about donating to the troops if you are talking about joining. Just stay on focus and stop fishing for praises. Trust me just cause you are a veteran does not make you a decent human being. After all there is a saying i remember from GoT where Sansa talks about how only the evil kids are able to get home. Honestly that is a generalization. But the point i am making is that not all veterans are great people, some are still assholes. Honestly from the look of it you are some kid or you are just joking around about the veterans. But make a comprehensive post about you joining the marines and give a proper reason. You sadly disappoint me as it seems you are not interested in the military but if you are a kid i urge you to graduate before you decide.

Why are people attacking this guy for wanting to serve and protect his country? Are you kidding me?
