Stopped reading at hard work and effort of bungie Oh and every halo game is worlds better than this. Both sp and mp This whole game is just like halo, escort your ghost to door/computer/landing pad/ control room/ defend him against waves of enemies rinse repeat. That was more or less the entirety of halo gameplay and nothing has changed here. Let's add to it the on-rails AI respawns in the same spots, in every zone and once you walk ten feet away, and fight another group they respawn behind you. At least in Halo the enemies were more unpredictable, its very stale in destiny as it feels dumbed down for Jr. who just heard about video games yesterday. The kill times are an avg of halo and cod. The pulse rifle is just the BR the auto rifle is either the AR or DMR depending on fire rate but the ADS and char models feel, look, and move more twitchy like cod. The game still revolves around a statistical model of letting you win against scrubs for a few games and then pitting you against ppl a standard deviation higher than you so you become the scrub and get shit on for ten games. This creates an artificial sense of getting better when you aren't all to keep you hooked.

  • Pretty well thought out post. I understand your reasoning. I also must agree, though I still think the game is fun (except Crucible, but Iron Banner is awesome!).

  • Overall it's fun just for how long in the long run? I think it's too basic and didn't have enough exploratory content a game like this needs. The loot is underwhelming too and too little and far between. Lots of potential in destiny but they are just gonna play it safe it looks like

  • Well its only a beta. If its no good at final release people will stop playing, and then Bungie will suffer. Im not expecting too much because I wont let myself over-hype this game. I went into the beta pleasantly surprised because honestly I thought there would be much less! To me, it seems like Borderlands, but in a much richer universe, with a much better story, and a lot more variety. I played Borderlands quite a bit, so hopefully this will last longer, as Im a sucker for lore and deep story telling and immersion. If not, well theres other games coming out, and Im saving up for a new PC so I can play Skywind!

"This whole game is just like halo, escort your ghost to door/computer/landing pad/ control room/ defend him against waves of enemies rinse repeat" This is a pillar is many games across the board, not tied to just Bungie. Or even FPS games in general. My room mates plays MMORPGs along with with shooters and I'll watch at time and see the same thing. Just different local and backstory settings. "The pulse rifle is just the BR the auto rifle is either the AR or DMR depending on fire rate" Again, a pillar of other games. Particularly EVERY shooter. Pulse: Equals M16, FAMAS of MW2, Battle Rifle of Halo, or every real world "Battle Rifle" and selective fire AR. Auto Rifle: Equals automatic weapon across ANY game in the shooter genres; every Light Machine Gun in real world or again selective fire AR or Carbine capable of automatic fire. DMR: Sniper Rifle of the original UT There are things that just can not change between any game set in a certain style of play.

  • Agree so much with every Halo game is worlds better (except 4 but Bungie didn't make it). Halo 3 was the number 1 game on Xbox live for 3 years for a reason, it had variety, depth, and skill. I don't see Destiny coming anywhere near that. I'm still buying Destiny, but I hope there's a lot more Bungie isn't showing us.

  • I love how people keep saying "its just a beta" as if the final product would be very diferent and have 200% more content or new story on the same area we already played. The beta represents the final game, yes the final game will have more content obviously, but it wont have much of a diference in what we already played in the beta.

What stuff? Ive been gaming since 1986 and by experience I can tell you that if you think that way about a beta then you are going to be disapointed, there may be some tweaks and changes, but the overal content will be the same. Its been like that on every beta ive played. You already got a good chunk of the story and a few story missions, those wont change, they will not add extra content to what you already played in the beta. What this basically means is that you are going to have the same expirience you had in the beta in the final game, only some minor tweaks and no level cap. Obviously the beta had blocked off areas, those will be open. But the gameplay experience will be the same.

  • Dont get bummed, my honest opinion is that this game is going to be like forza 5, quality but lacking in content, content that will be "sold" later on, the game is going to be fun, its going to have its good qualities and shine, but it wont be as epic as you tought it would be. Fanboys will say that its your own fault for setting yourself up, but the truth is that with all the info out there and all the videos the company puts out you get hyped because you dont read between "the lines" or the "small print" I can even bet money on this, those locations that where hinted are going to be DLC, but they dont tell you that, they want you to asume its in the game, and when you play it and realize its not and you need to buy DLC to play them then you will complain. Their argument will be that they never stated that those locations will be on the realese copy of the game. They wont give you stuff if they know they can make you pay $$ for it, and trust me, they know.

  • I know what you mean, but in all honesty ive lost hope in gaming a long time ago, once I started looking at things the right way everything became predictable, you can see past all the smoke and mirrors, I still love playing games and I game a lot, Im just used to the fact that companies relly on hype to make sales. Consumers "asuming" "hype" creates sales. Preorders, unfinished games, dlc, its the new way to make money without taking much risk. And we the consumers buy into it, we let it happen.

  • I think a lot of this stems from how they hyped the game. They imposed impossible standards on their own product and then stood behind it. Everything every fanboy creamed their pants over (AI controls, Environmental diversity, MMO like customs, Mappings) was all lifted up so high, even over their previous achievements, that there was simply no way they could ever live up to it. Anyways, I agree with you full force man. Take it easy.

  • I agree it's just to many promises and unrealistic expectations. If I hadn't been playing games for the last 25 years the whole adventure and spectacle of destiny would be incredible. Unfortunately having played every big title spanning all genres it's obvious to me this game is cobbled together from many different things. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but when you want innovation and a risk and you don't get it cuz the company wants to play it safe and stick with what works the promise of it being new and fresh blows out the window

This is exactly what I have thought the whole time! I never believed the hype and now I know I was right to do so. I went into the beta a happy gamer and was pleasantly surprised because I wasnt expecting even as much as there is! Destiny is not an innovator, its a clever way to bundle many good features into one game. It has a little bit of everything. There are still many things it could do better, and many things it does well enough. Combat is good, loot could be better, customization is varied, but could use more such as color options and full facial customization like a Mass Effect game. PvP needs re-done. The size of the sandbox could be bigger, but Im not woried as it is the beta and there were many blocked off areas. This is a perfect example of a mixed genre game - as the old saying goes, "Jack of all trades, master of none". For me, no game will ever live up to an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game when it comes to rich backstory and massive sandbox worlds to explore.

  • Well put I think the jack of all trades master of none says a lot about this game. All the pieces are there but its all overly simplified and streamlined. Questing and discovery in this game isn't like oblivion. I don't feel a need to explore or a sense of ohh what's over this hill? Its just hurry to the waypoint so you can defend it against 5 or 6 waves of stuff then pack it in and head on to the next one. The chests don't make sense in the context of the game either. it's just a random box in an alcove on a pathway to a waypoint. It feels forced and not organic. In addition to that they only give you glimmer which you can get from dismantling weapons. I'm not interested in walking in circles to the same chests to get money that's not even a time worthy reward. In all questing RPG games ( fallout, oblivion, diablo, borderlands, final fantasy, others) your getting heaps of gear left and right from chests, enemies, secrets in environments, and NPCs you INTERACT with that give life to the story. In destiny a robot gives you a mission and you go to a load screen. Its a nuts and bolts game with no real soul or defining quality that sets it apart from other games. The combat isn't bad and feels fluid but the enemies all look the same and the formations are just reused halo groupings of a few easy kill enemies and two or three tough kills. They don't stand out and I don't even know why I'm killing them other than they are "the darkness", and all that reminds me of is the rick James sketch on chapelles show where he keeps calling charlie Murphy " darkness".

  • I agree with prety much everything you just said :/ Again, I still had fun though because I didnt really expect anything more. Its better than Borderlands (IMHO) and thats good enough for me. I imagine that the final game will be a bit less bare bones, and will certainly have more to the story. I had the feeling that the "story" missions in the Beta were just sample missions and were really dumbed down. In the end, a lot of what you said is true, but I wasnt counting on Destiny to deliver all of those things and am happy to wait for the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout game for those. This is what happens when people over hype a game, and Bungie raised the bar too high for themselves. Ill have fun playing it for a while though. I am working on a word document on my computer that I will be copying to the #Feedback section later today. It will be my complete overview of the game, whats good, and what could be done better. Your post has helped me decide on some things that could be made better!

  • The enemies in Halo were unpredictable? Really? Is that why they would always move to the side when you were scoped in on them, even before you fired? Sorry, but no.
