I think it would be really cool if the longer you spend outside the Tower, the dirtier and more worn down your armor looks. Dust, cracks, chunks missing, etc.
It wouldn't have any degrade to your stats, just the look of it.
It would have to be something related to hp on your armor, but everything would have the same amount so it wouldn't be hard to implement. The more damage you take, the more roughed up your armor would look, (it wouldn't refill after battles though.) That way when you get back to the Tower from a Strike or hard mission, you really look like you went to hell and back, not like you just took your armor through a Chevron car wash.
Once you get back to the Tower, the 'grit' bar would slowly refill, fixing your armor, making it look all new again. (See 'Edits' for changes to this idea.)
Anybody else with me on this? I think it would really be cool to see some purely cosmetic wear and tear on your gear.
Please make sure to 'star'/Like if you agree! Comments are great and discussion is better! But Likes are what's going to get it noticed!! Thanks!
Thanks for the support and keep it up! Let's make sure the awesome team at Bungie see's this!
Edits/Ideas:
Joe VDB: Hold Circle/B while at the Tower and your Ghost will clean you up/repair your armor
Group Idea: Have a Shader that has unlimited uses that overrides the dirt affect. Keeping your armor permanently clean, unless you use the 'Original Color' shader that everyone starts with.

Great idea. I want my Hunter to look more rogue than fresh out the Ghost.

Just a thought but shouldn't there be markings on armour representing boss/missions completed/killed sort o like the predators with aliens. It just adds uniqueness and also shows " hey been there done that". It would make these people that have tried harder look more.. Legendary.

No. I don't want to keep having to go to the tower just do I can stop looking like a dust ball. You ever played skate 3? Do you know how annoying it is having your clothes dirty because you fell and having to go through loading screens and change the wardrobe just so you can look better. Fvck that. It's a video game

Omg yesssssss

Like the Batman games, but fixable. BRILLIANT. If exos get cuts, you could see their wires or sparks.

Bungie... Bungie pls.

I found a Hunter Cloak that was bloodied and bullet torn.

Yeah, I agree. The outfits looks to clean. I'd like it to be more dirty as well.
-
It would be soooo cool......
-
Agreed, but i think it should degrade the durability over time.
-
Don't know about you, but I take care of my armor. send it out for cleaning/polish/dent removal every week. it's dry clean only you know
-
It'd be cool if the wear was related to the amount of missions (both campaign and pvp) you've completed. That'd be the easiest way to accommodate for armor wear as compared to the amount of enemies you've killed.
-
Agreed. Would love this. Purely for cosmetic appeal.
-
It would also be cool to see some gashes and scratches on your leg armor because of sliding.

Totally agree on this! No lie the first thing I thought of was how cool it was to polish my robot in custom robo arena back in the day haha but having it dirty and worn after a day out in earth or battling with guardians in the crucible and coming back looking like you really had work to be done is an awesome idea!

From what I noticed, the warlock body armor gets its ass kicked after wearing it for a while. I cant say for the other two classes, but after getting my new warlock body armor, i was in love with how nice and fresh and clean and blue it was. After a few runs in explore, crucible, and devl's lair, the bottom of the body armor turned dirty, and all torn up. IDK if this was just for me or for everyone else too, it was nice to see that effect though.

Agreed. Battle worn marks would be great. Would be neat to have a degradation of armor but that maybe way to much to implement he mechanic. Zooming in on a persons armor let alone your own, would be great. Especially to see the differences and uniqueness of each players choices. :)

To add to this feature, It would be great to have a zoom in function while walking around in the tower so we can inspect/notice more details in not only the gear that guardian is wearing but also the environment. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/66774809/0/0
