The Destiny Beta

It starts on July 17th on Playstations, and July 24th on Xboxes. Sadly, I'm always going to be in the "haha-you-get-your-content-later" Xbox club, but that's fine. We're getting close, ladies and gentlemen! I cannot wait to finally own a shiny new Bungie game again! Let's use this thread to discuss the beta when it's out, and to link up for co-op funtimes if needed. Also, if I hear one more person bitch about Peter Dinklage's voice work I'm banning them. ;)

  • So I played about 3 hours of the beta last night with Pyroman... half the time was spent looking at the incredible skyboxes and finding chests with disappointing loot in caves. We didn't even care. This game is fantastic. The AI is better than Halo games IMO, and while I'm still getting used to the shooting, I also recognize that your weapons are crap when you first start (recoil, muzzle climb, etc). While we were roaming around in the huge Russia area, half-sticking with our mission goals, a random group event started up. It involved a drop-ship dropping enemies at specific drill points on the map. A blue waypoint appeared that anyone in the current map could have ran/driven to to help out. You had to protect three different points from the invading enemies, but each subsequent point happened in a different area, one after another, and there was a time limit. Him and I were level 4 and having some trouble, when out of nowhere this level 8 came flying in and saved our asses. The three of us beat the event at a gold level (probably due to how quickly we complete it), and thanked him by bowing/saluting before he drove off. It was amazing. This game is 100% an MMORPG, but without that crowded feeling of having to line up to wait for things to spawn, and with the cool feeling of coming across other fire teams on the main map, or even individuals, and helping them out. When you get to the "dungeons," any non-fire team people without will teleport out of your instance, and you are on your own with your fire team members. It all is incredibly seamless and slick. I've been waiting for a good new MMORPG, hopefully with controller support, since SWTOR, and it looks like Destiny is going to scratch that itch quite well.
