Agreed. All I hear from feminists is “patriarchy”. Male power. Male privilege. Male influence. Male authority. Which males? Which men have this power and authority and privilege and influence? Is it black men, hispanic men, white men from poor backgrounds, all of whom are disproportionately incarcerated and denied educations that reflect their talents and requirements? Is it homeless men? Homosexual men? Transgender men? Middle-class men struggling to hang on to houses with mortgages that will never be paid? Is it the vast majority of men? I don’t see feminism attempting to answer any of these questions, other than to spout buzzwords like “patriarchy” and "r*pe culture", as if it suddenly proves something. I find it highly ironic that the feminist vitriol of victim-blaming does not extend to men. Patriarchy = the rule of men = problems for men too = it’s your fault, since you’re a man. This is a laughably inadequate explanation. The real problem for both men and women alike is that there is an increasingly powerful upper class in our society that is brutally exploiting and profiting from the labour of the lower class majority. It’s far more comfortable for us to blame something as baseless and unsubstantiated as “patriarchy” when the reality is that the rich, both men and women alike, are the real problem. While it's true that there are crusty old rich men shitting all over the rest of the population, does any sane person really believe rich women are going to be any different, or going to give more of a shit about the struggles of their gender or anyone else who is substantially less privileged than they are for that matter?

  • Yes! And you see, all of those questions you just asked, feminists will just say that they are a result of the patriarchy. "Men caused their own problems. Bad gender roles and expectations for men are a result of a patriarchy." That is why I said that they essentially forget the meaning of a patriarchy. I don't see why a male dominated society has caused every problem known to man, including men's own problems. A more logical and realistic argument is that men and women are equally responsible for sexism and the world's problems. bad tyrannical kings or slavery has nothing to do with the fact that they were men, because many females have done just as many horrible things too. But feminists will ignore this and go right to: "Those females were under patriarchal influence".

  • Literally had this conversation with a friend yesterday. It basically ended with her saying it's sad that I can't see the reality of misogyny in our society, and that she was too tired to explain it. bertstare.jpg

Coincidentally, I've been having the same discussion with women lately. Mass media, using the recent gunman as an example of cultural misogamy may be to blame. Withal, I welcome the discussion. It gives us the opportunity to talk about it, and hopefully, solve this societal discourse. As went: "Men objectify women, it's wrong" "Sure, I agree that a lot of men do. It's wrong, and it is a problem. Withal, women objectify themselves more-so than men. Is it not hypocritical to disdain from holding the same standards towards women, as you do to men? I can agree that the objectification of women by men is a problem, but can you see that women objectifying themselves is too a problem?" A proceeded to ask, "Well you blame men for women's problems. Do you believe men supersede women?" She reluctantly answered yes. I disagreed. I pointed out that women supersede men in many ways. That if women stopped objectifying themselves, I think men would soon follow. When women objectify themselves, men follow. They set zero standards for themselves, and expect men to uphold something that they naively disregard. They say there is a culture of r*pe amongst men, but cannot admit that they themselves perpetuate it! She got a tad flustered, but said I was smart and made good points. In the end, women cannot change the attitudes of men, and visa-versa. Withal, men can change men's attitudes, and women women's, no?

  • It's kind of sad really. It's this type of delusional rhetoric that eventually leads on to dangerously totalitarian poisonous movements. I just hope it doesn't get anymore political traction than it already does.
