No, it's not a technical thing either; they just want to sell more copies of the game, and that's that.

Bungie has had split screen in their games for the past decade, if they don't do it this time around it's technical.

I think more people would buy the game if it had split screen. I know my friends would be more likely to buy it if they could load up their character at my house to play in addition to back at theirs.
