I don't even know everything that happened, I just know that I've closely observed Bungie shift and change dramatically over the last decade. Cool thing though, my dad has been consistent. He has consistently worked hard and consistently cared about making the player experience as cool as possible. Many times I would come home from school and he would be testing out a video game, making notes on what he liked and didn't like, or even in the middle of developing a theory on how things could be improved for the player. I've seen him do extensive research on how music affects emotions and I know he always adds in little details that are important. My dad is a brilliant video game producer and music composer/producer. This change will not ever change who he is, because from the beginning he has always been consistent; that is one thing I know about my dad. Oh, and he loves the fans, that is another thing. I'm in tears reading about how his music affected people's lives. Thank you to the bnet community and halo music fans <3 *Edit: As requested, I've sent this to my dad, so he will be reading the responses.* Update: My dad has been really happy to read about how his music has affected the player's experience and peoples' hearts, that was always his goal. I love my dad and have massive respect for him and anyone who follows his work as well. The responses so far have really meant a lot to my family. *Internet hug!***

  • I'm sorry I don't accept it. I am now CONSIDERING not buying Destiny. Music for me is the HEART of a product. In films that I watch or make...the music is A LOT more important than people may give it credit for. For the first time in all my time playing video games...the music was actually the best component. When playing Halo....the way the music merged with the visuals and set the scene was UNLIKE ANY OTHER GAME BEFORE. And guess what, Marty just kept on taking the music to new levels with each installment...here's my gripe... In my view, Halo has depreciated with each game. Lazier storytelling and some outright DISGRACEFUL entries *cough* ODST *cough* But Marty's music has CONSISTENTLY never fallen off that benchmark he set in part one. And he was entering new territory creatively as the games were supposed to get larger in scope. I might be the lonely voice in saying I demand an explanation. I demand to know how you sack one of your BEST and most talented employees without notice. So I'm sorry, you have to tell your Dad that this fan here refuses to accept this and wish him luck like some and Bungie have said. He does not need luck...TALENT makes its own luck. Marty is one of the most underrated composers full stop right now. I hate the "video game" composer tag. The things he did musically in Halo is greater and broader in scope than what I've heard in most films today. It leaves a very sickening taste in my mouth and a game I was looking forward to getting, MOSTLY because of where Marty would take the music is now something I have mixed feelings about... HH

  • Nice! Man, I would sit before Halo 1 and 2, taking a brief moment to close my eyes and hum the title music. My friend and I would always do this, taking a silent moment to listen to the music to prepare us for the legendary battle ahead. He would always utter, "The calm before the storm". This was our ritual. Your father's music captured the feel of Halo. It spoke of things to come, of failures that we might have to endure, and to victories that we rested eyes upon. Nothing short of memorable.

  • Your father breathed life into Halo and made it not only stand out, but made it truly legendary. Bungie letting him go was one of the most foolish things they've ever done. I wish your father the absolute best, and I think I speak for a large number of people when I say that we look forward to hearing his music do the same for other games, shows or movies.

  • Martin "Marty" O'Donnell, you are the prime reason why I joined this community. When I was 8, I was told about a video game called Halo, so I borrowed a friend's copy to play it, just out of curiosity. But my curiosity became into a reality when I heard your music. It flowed with my experience and I have never forgotten my first moment playing Halo for the first time, and I do still play Halo (CE) to this day. I also loved to hate the Flood, with all due respect, your talented sounds, but I later became enthused and inspired by those sounds because it was unique and new. I was saddened to hear about your termination happened during my birthday. It made me realize about all the time I have spent on a game made by Bungie. Now I don't want to know how nor why The decision was made but I do hope for you the best of luck in life as my support to you. Recall the best moments in your career and look forward. Best wishes, and Audacia Per Ad Astra! Robert K.
