I actually just had a whole lecture on this subject. Video games especially are more of a form of venting negative feelings and actions, thus preventing violent actions in real life for the average person.

Like most arguments there are two sides to the story. I've seen many more reports and accounts of people relaxing via games. Be interesting to know how a games like Dark Souls, and Super Meat Boy (which is hard but fair) affect peoples behaviour.

I can vouch for this, without violent games as an outlet I probably would have caused quite a few injuries to people <.<
