  • ***SPOILER ALERT*** I'm glad I found this thread because I wanted to comment about the patterns that Game Devs are using and Bungie is guilty of this. Compare the Lore of Marathon and Halo. Marathon; a heroic faceless figure, known only as the security officer, is guided by a female AI. Together, they fend off a group of alien races that attack the ship Marathon. The aliens were called to the ship because of another AI on board went into "Rampancy." (becoming crazy, self realizing that it was created to help humanity when humanity is hopeless, therefore it must destroy them) Don't get me wrong, this is award winning material when you compare it to games today and this game was released with Doom back in 1994. However, only because it is award winning doesn't mean make it a cookie cutter recipe. Halo; a heroic faceless figure, known as Spartan 117 or John, is guided by a female AI through the galaxy to fend of a group of alien races known as the Covenant. Said AI also goes into "rampancy." I will say the that Bungie did a great job on adding far more spices to their recipe, but if the main story of Destiny hinges on an AI that is on the brink of destroying itself from "Rampancy," then I will say that you are only one step above Bioware.
