How do directions not exist at the poles? Magnetic compasses don't work, but there are still three directions you can travel in. You just don't have the option of going further north or south, depending on what pole you are on. Aside from a magnetic compass, you can use pretty much all other traditional forms of navigation. Stars, sun, landmarks, triangulation, GPS, etc.

Well, now that I think about it, I guess any direction would technically be north at the South Pole, and any direction would be south at the North Pole.
