• Because they obviously couldn't do so before right? The PC platform alone makes just as much money as all three 7th gen consoles combined, this move by TPB won't change that.

  • The numbers don't lie. PC gaming is even projected to overtake console gaming by 2015.

  •
and here's a graph I pulled out of my ass from a shady source
I don't have any agenda either. I probably own a more powerful gaming PC than you. I just know for a fact that that's bullshit, and even if there is any sort of truth behind it, it certainly true for the US and UK. China, Japan, and specific parts of Europe? It's a bit believable.

  • That graph I "pulled out of my ass" was created from information gathered by NVIDIA (one of the major gaming hardware companies) and DFC Intelligence ( one of the premier marketing research firms for both the gaming and tech industries). You can disagree with the facts all you want, but you're the only one that's going to look like a moron.
I probably have a more powerful gaming PC than you
Lolok Why would that even matter? All that shows is that you have more spare cash to throw around at your expensive Lego set.

  • Oh hardly. A lot of pirates (myself included) buy the stuff that they enjoyed. Why do you think I recently spent almost $400 on anime that I've already seen? (This is also partially do to the fact that I'm starting a collection.) It's only the little kids with no money who don't pay back what they should. And you do realize that tons of people (excluding some PC gamers) pirate stuff other than PC games, right? Music and video piracy is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than PC game piracy. ALSO, some game developers even promote the piracy of their own game so that gamers can test out the whole thing before they buy it, because why pay for a shitty product?

  • I pirated Skyrim, loved it, and spent $60 for the 360 version that comes with all the DLC. If I never pirated it, I would have never bought the copy.

  • Not true. I've pirated games for PC before, and have bought most of them back even though I could have just left the pirated version installed.

  • He says that it's not true that the games will be pirated because he's pirated games. Anything after that became void. Just because HE bought them afterwards doesn't mean others will. It also doesn't change the fat that it was pirated.

  • I've said it once and I'll say it again, a lot of people who pirate anything, whether that be games, music, videos, etc. usually do end up legally buying it at some point if that person enjoyed it. The only people who don't do this are the little kids with no money to pay back what deserves to be payed back.

I hope you have a source to back that up... Btw, I'm not referring to the fact that piracy doesn't hurt the gaming industry, just the fact that people who pirate do not end up buying the game/ other media at retail.

  • Oh I do! Multiple sources in fact. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-05-24-game-dev-tycoon-developer-finds-success-after-its-cheeky-anti-piracy-stunt http://voices.yahoo.com/why-video-game-piracy-not-hurting-video-game-6714256.html http://herocomplex.latimes.com/tv/game-of-thrones-director-piracy-helps-hbo-series-thrive/#/0 http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2013/08/26/study-piracy-actually-helps-small-films-make-money/ http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/new-study-says-online-piracy-isn%E2%80%99t-hurting-entertainment-industry-220006729.html

None of those are about people buying things they have pirated, just about the fact that piracy can help the industry under certain circumstances. I already knew this was the case. However, to think that the majority of people who pirate media will actually end up buying it after they have gotten all that can be enjoyed out of it is quite naive.

  • What are you talking about? Here are some prime examples from those links that support my statement. (aka relinks) http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-05-24-game-dev-tycoon-developer-finds-success-after-its-cheeky-anti-piracy-stunt http://herocomplex.latimes.com/tv/game-of-thrones-director-piracy-helps-hbo-series-thrive/#/0 http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2013/08/26/study-piracy-actually-helps-small-films-make-money/ Those are all examples of people buying something or finding a legal way of watching them after they have pirated it because they enjoyed it. I'm more into the whole piracy scene than you may think, and trust me, lots of pirates actually do buy the stuff that they enjoy.

  •
adds to their word-of-mouth cachet.
Quoted directly from the Game of Thrones article as the reason it helps them, not "people who pirated the show then bought it." Same can be said for the other two links. Did you even read the articles?

  •
Did you even read the articles?
Yes, I have. Fine, maybe the GoT wasn't a good example, but it definitely brought a lot of attention to the series, which did in turn help it rack in more money.
Same can be said for the other two links.
What about the Game Dev Tycoon example? How is that not relevant?

  • It isn't relevant because the thing that helped them was the publicity from the stunt itself. Like I said, I have always acknowledged the fact that piracy can help, however, your claim that the majority of pirates go back and buy the game/ media is not backed by any evidence and ignorant of the facts. There are people like you who do, yes, but the majority certainly do not.
