Like how the weapon/vehicle/AI models were, how the scenery was, the art. The skyboxes were the best in the series and the visuals were very clean/polished and colourful too! Not which looks more realistic. Not how good the graphics were. Which looked the best in your opinion? State why too. IMO it's Halo 3. Although many people claimed it for being too "cartoony".I thought it was beautiful. Look at Last resort and Stand off and high ground. Obviously there are more beautiful looking maps in Halo 3 but these are some of my favourites. Halo 2 was close but Halo 3 was better. Halo 1, Reach and CEA were excellent too IMO. But the Halo 4 art style...alright. It doesn't really look like Halo though imo. I know it sounds stupid but it looks toooo scifi, over the top. The brightness of the art style they got right though lol but other than a FEW guns and vehicles and MC and Cortana people can say it doesn't look like a Halo game..oh and this kinda goes for the sound effects too though. Graphics are obviously the best though. I hope Halo 5 has a very similar art style to Halo 3 but obviously with a graphical upgrade obviously. This video further proves why I like halo 3's art style/graphic style the best.

  • So art style is a weird delineation. All Halos have a definitive style - 343i carefully kept it for Halo 4, and we should expect it for Halo 5. So, obviously, Halo: CE had a huge role - so huge you really cant quantify it - in determining the art style. It set the whole thing in motion. Second to that, I would have to say Halo 2. The sequel was the opportunity both for development and change of art style. They had time - time that Bungie absolutely did NOT have for CE - to really embellish the universe visually.

  • Why must almost every one of your threads be some kind of platform to moan about Halo 4 in some capacity? You do know that each Forerunner rate has extremely distinctive architectural styles, right? The vast majority of architecture we've seen from the Forerunners has been from the Builders, while Halo Wars and Halo 4 shows us Warrior-Servant architecture, and the Keyship from Halo 2/3 is a Lifeworker vessel. Then you've got the Miners who have a completely different style of architecture altogether. The Gatherer is extremely similar to what Bornstellar describes Miner constructs to be like - aesthetically displeasing with groups of of grapplers, lifters, and cutters on their underbellies. Forerunners also used stone to craft some of their temples which can change shape and form, like the Temple of Abiding Truth that Phillips is in on Sanghelios in The Thursday War. This sort of thing was also seen on Delta Halo during Halo 2, but in an inert form. Forerunners don't just have one style of architecture. The same way we don't have one style of architecture. It varies greatly across cultures and time, and the Forerunners have been around for over ten million years. We have seen the smallest glimpse of what they've built in a time period of about 10,000 years. We're obviously going to be seeing things which are a departure from that as we see deeper into their society and technological capabilities, it'd be terribly dull if we found ourselves in the same grey buildings again and again every time a Forerunner structure was encountered... So yes, I can say that it looks like a Halo game because your reason for saying it doesn't is based on a totally arbitrary standard of your own perception which itself is born out of not really knowing what you're talking about. OT: CEA > ODST = Halo 4 = Wars > Halo 3 > Halo 2 > Reach

Hard to single one out. I've always cited Halo 2 as my favourite, but only because it dived further into the Covenant's elegant style more than ever. Otherwise, it's not really that unique. Sure, it made the human military more appealing with greens instead of just browns and greys, but that's not my favourite part of Halo art, and neither is the Covenant. That, my friends, lies with the Forerunners. CE pretty much perfectly captures the epic yet mysterious presence of the faction, with gargantuan structures that yet lay almost entirely dormant. And the pallet of the Forerunner structures and interiors was fantastically executed, as they had both this futuristic lustre to them, whilst looking impossibly ancient and leached of colour by untold centuries of existence. Unfortunately, CEA -blam!-ing butchered this by adding bright lights and unnecessary angles all over the -blam!-ing place, making the ringworld look busier and therefore less quiet and mysterious. Conversely, I adore H4's art style (not as much, mind) because it went in a really strongly futuristic direction, with much more inexplicable technology in the form of all the floating Forerunner doodads and lights and protrustions and stuff. Sure, a lot of the surface detail was unnecessary noise (see how 343 -blam!-ed up the Reclaimer symbol, although whether they could just use the Marathon logo as Bungie did without running into copyright laws, I don't know), but 4 was a noisy, bombastic, punchy return for John and Cortana, and that really shows in the aesthetic. Whilst 3 didn't really add anything, just tarted it up for the seventh generation (I did -blam!-ing love the Ark, but mainly because of its size. Though the whole scifi heaven thing is delicious), Reach is definitely my least favourite, taking the beautiful, colourful universe and dragging it through the goddamn mud until it looked like yet another brown-n-grey military shooter. I'm glad 4 brought Halo's unique colour pallet back, and I can't wait to see what 343 does with 5/(2014). What does H2 have going for it if not the art? Well, art isn't limited to visuals: H2's music is the best in the series, and without Marty anymore, it probably always will be. The plot is also the series best, so far, although CE and 4 are both pretty damn awesome.

            • I liked Halo 2's art style the most, especially the design for the Elites. There were so many different types of Elites it was awesome. The Councilor Elites and Honor Guards looked frightening and were tough to fight. The weapon design was cool. When I picked up the Carbine for the first time it was like a whole new experience. The Heretic Banshee was also another one of my favorite things about the game but its too bad it was only in one level. The sound was great, with the exception of the SMG sounding like a staple gun. My favorite sound was the Ghost when it would fly up in the air and the engine explodes. That whirring noise never got old. The Banshee also had a similar sound too and kinda did the same effect as the Ghost.

              • I liked Reaches most. It felt militaristic, futuristic but at the same time serious. 1-3 felt a bit too cartoony, and (To me) this drew away from the seriousness and atmosphere of the war, whereas in Reach, it feels like a losing battle.

                  • I voted for 3, but wanted to vote for Reach. It's difficult to explain, but I think Reach 's design looks more "Halo ". It's the first title where there is a real departure from the "Aliens " feel that the UNSC had to it's design. Granted the color pallet was quite drab, but the art style was very unique, or at least compared to the other titles.
