I follow people if I find their topics interesting and if they are not rude, even if their views differ from mine.

I like that and totally agree. I've followed quite a few with passionate opinions that differ from mine, but they're still smart interesting people that I like to hear what they have to say. Only way to learn different ideas. I sure as hell don't want to have conversations and arguements with a mirror. Though I've been known to argue with myself from time to time. Ha.
