Well i don't think in destiny (or any game of the moment) we'll be able to "become a legend" because for most weapon/armor/stat/drop/level/ etc etc can be accessible to anyone as long as they (in some cases pay enough $$) play long enough or hard enough; but just because anyone can get to them having those "goals" and the obstacles in front of them around is still important because those variables that stand in front of us (difficulty, level requirements etc) lower the number of people who'll have something similar of an experience of what you did. For example we all know the type of gamer that has to get a full completion to be satisfied and the type that doesn't give a damn about achievements or anything of the sort. If your type A, your not the only one. There will be people who go and get the same super rare weapon (or whatever it is you achieve) you worked so hard to get because they wanted what you did, and they paid just as much as you did so their just as entitled. But that will only be SOME people who achieve the same thing you do because of the wide variety Destiny is going to offer us and with the large number of players out there and their own respective playing styles so it's less likely you'll run into those few who've gone to the same lengths you have. But to go along with what your asking for, that "special feeling" lets say for certain spontaneous public events there could be an item drop that can only be acquired at that time and never again. So the small number of people who participated in said event have a unique definer on them that can't ever be achieved by anyone else. And that what it's really about in my opinion is to have a fun and unique //experience// rather than stacking your character and achievements up against others and comparing because no matter what with enough work (and in some cases $) anyone can achieve/unlock anything in a video game. But just because you have the same goal or reward how you played it to get there are separate unique experiences and those make the game worth while, not being regarded by other players (although it feels nice) All in all i think your ideas are great though and it would be wonderful if we could have them in game to further enhance each players experience.
