Will I REALLY Become Legend?

TL;DR: What do you think Bungie needs to do to TRULY make players feel legendary? I think it's easy for us to gloss over the phrases "Be Brave" & "Become Legend". At first glance, it's just kind of cheesy. Tons of games promise glory and honor, but in reality everyone eventually reaches the same "level" and acquires the best "loot". So rather than feeling special you look around at all the other rats and realize you have been led through the same maze by the same piece of cheese: false promises of true accomplishment and recognition. Our human nature craves fame, glory, honor and power, so to be promised these things guarantees our attention and eventually our time and money. Let's be honest with each other... Even when we do meet someone who has something "high level", the first thing we think is: "man, that dude must play _______ A LOT" (E.G. After a grueling year or so, I finally earned enough credits for Inclement Weather in Reach. I lost my first match after I equipped it, and some guy in the post-game lobby cussed me out and told me how pathetic I was for playing enough games to purchase it). I also was not a huge fan of the ranking system in Reach either, because it was simply a reflection of time spent playing the game, as compared to the ranking system in Halo 2 which was based on multiplayer skill. Even commendations were a great idea that flopped because everyone eventually had the same ones... As much as I loved Halo: Reach, I never really felt "special" or "legendary" besides just simply sharing experiencing and stories in the moment with friends. Outside of this, I had very little to show for all that I had done. /cynicism With that said, I really do believe that Bungie will make good on their promise. As a developer, they care deeply about the lore of the universes that they build, and then care even more about the people that play their games. No part of me considers the "Be Brave" and "Become Legend" to be a ploy to grab our attention and money. Even in the little we have seen, it is clear to me that Bungie is sticking closely to their design pillars and doing everything they can do make us feel like we are truly accomplishing something when we play Destiny. The reason for this post was the launch a conversation about how you think Bungie will do this with Destiny. What would make you feel like a Legend while playing Destiny? I'll post some of my ideas and update the list with your ideas (if I like them :) ) - Separate coop, competitive, campaign ranking. - Visual incentives for impressive stats rather than just generic experience (a simple green color for your in-game name tag for anyone above a 2.0 k/d spread in multiplayer, for instance). - Broad plethora of title changes that will reflect how you play the game. - Ranking and stature that follows me to B.net in a significant way. - "Commendations" or achievements that are truly difficult and meaningful (think Annual ViDoc challenges) - Faction rankings and significant unlockables for climbing the ranks. And remember, use the power Bungie has given you and LIKE this thread so more people can participate in the conversation.

 • If people really wanted to feel unique and feel immersion with the Destiny universe, I can only think of one thing - Each player needs their own Wiki page within a Destiny Wikia. I think players will definitely need to role play a bit, depending on the freedoms we get in Destiny. Every player will then be unique to the fact they'll have a set character in Destiny history that other people can happily find and read about. Using their current in game character to pose as, they'll each have information about them. Even If the player makes it up, they can give background information, where the character grew up, did they lose their parents parents? Where do they live in the city? I mean, most people know the basic layout for people on a Wiki. Early life, Death, Career, etc etc... A destiny timeline is needed, and also including battles fought, all players who were there, a memorial kind of thing. If a player was involved in a battle it'll be listed on their own personal Wikia. Perhaps famous battles. "The battle for Mars" Year 2676, Jun 15th. "Guthred Wita made fame for solely taking down a company of Cabal who were defending their communications station, whilst his fellow Guardians pushed for the old Military Fort. The result of his bravery and almost carelessly act allowed Humanity to reclaim an old fort, that was centered around Military hardware development in Humanities earlier years. The success of this mission from uthred Wita and his fellow Guardians ( list of clan or friends ) then led Humanity to reclaim Mars from the Cabal, and pushed them out of the solar system and almost to the brink of total defeat." It's cliche, but an example... you know, that sort of thing. Sadly, there will be too many players to list on a Wiki page. We'd also perhaps need some capture card devices to record the actual battles just for greater immersion. Y'know? It's fun to think about though, lol.
