Yeah a little story about that...
When I was little I used to be on some mad stuff to control my ADHD. (I'm one of the people who really did have serious ADHD.) When not on pills, you could find me spinning in circles, making sound effects, or running without end throughout the house. But these pills, while they certainly stopped all of that, also killed my appetite and turned me into an emotionless loner. I went like that from 1st to 6th grade.
One day in 6th grade I said "You know what? I don't need this shit! I can control myself and not have to live so depressed all the time!" And so I threw my last prescription right into the garbage.
Fast forward five months, and I had my ADHD very reasonably controlled from constant self-monitoring, to the point where I was hardly even having any impulses escape. I was finally happy and I started to make friends. I was still a little quirky, but I started to really settle into the idea of having people my age that I can talk and hang out with.
So yeah. Drugs are bad, mkay?

Edited by HurtfulTurkey: 12/15/2013 7:41:36 PMNot to diminish your self-control, but usually disorders like these are characterized by not being able to be controlled through sheer will. If you really were able to drastically change your behavior just by willing it, it's likely you didn't actually have a ADHD to begin with and were just an active kid. From your comments below it sounds like you have a really fast metabolism which explains your hyperactivity.

Yeah, my theory is that I just have ADD and that a fast metabolism. Believe me, even today I absolutely cannot focus on something for more than 2 minutes unless I'm really into it. Lectures are the bane of my existence because my mind will completely blank for the entire duration until something grabs my attention back.

You didn't have shit. You were a hyper kid, plain and simple. Your parents are awful, no offense because they lack the common sense to actually parent you.

lol Say it like you know me bb.

It sounds like you don't want to medicate, but an OTC alternative to ADHD medicine is ephedrine HCL which can be found in sinus medications. I take it as part of a stimulant but it helps with concentration as a side effect, too. It has the appetite suppression too, so you'd have to make sure you eat.
, also killed my appetite
When I started on my meds they did the same thing. Though I see it as a blessing in disguise since at the time I was well on the road to being a fatty. I'm in a much healthier condition now, and I probably wouldn't be if I wasn't on those meds.

Edited by qy: 12/15/2013 7:04:11 PMYeah. I've always naturally been really skinny, so that appetite loss really destroyed me. Doctors thought I was anorexic even though I told them it was the meds. Today (I'm in 10th grade) I've gained plenty of weight and I had a phenomenal growth spurt after such a long period on those meds. (I'm currently 6'0 and 135 lbs.)

Yeah, I was 150 lbs before I started High School and when I got on those meds I lost 20 lbs in a couple months. Once I started High School I started taking weight lifting and I started to gain that weight back in muscle! Anyway, nowadays (I'm in 10th grade also) I'm around 140 lbs and I'm working to get back to 150, it's a lot more work than I'd like :I

Glad to hear that turned out well, and agreed!
