In the typical American fashion, we will get the easy way out. Well, most of us at least. Eurasia, Africa, S. America and Australia? Not so much. No, we die out pretty quickly, and you get to choke on our ashes. Think about that when you are coughing up bloody ash goo from your lungs. Once again, it's pretty likely that a disaster in America caused you agony (in this case an agonizing death)

  • Erm, probably not going to happen as much as you think. Humanity will not die out because of Yellowstone.

  • Nuclear Winter. Small volcanoes have cooled the average temperature by a few percentage. What do you think when one the size of Belgium goes off? That will effect pretty much everyone in the world.

  • Where did I say the whole human race would die. You are in the UK. Pretty close, YOU are done for. Likely you will be choking on MY fat ass's ashes. Sucks to be you.

  • Mt.St.Helens erupted and we had ash in the UK, hell it went around the world it was that big of an explosion. Sure Yellowstone will be much bigger but it won't be as bad as you lot seem to think. Just because it can blow up a couple of states does not mean everybody in a country a 1000 miles away is going to end up dead.

  • If Yellowstone goes up, the ash cloud will cover almost all of the Northern Hemisphere in less than two weeks. The ash cloud will remain for several months. If the eruption is continuous, the Northern Hemisphere will experience an artificial winter and prolonged darkness. Most crops would die, either smothered by ash layers, or just from the cold temperatures and lack of sunlight. The initial threat for humans is the ash itself, which could choke everyone in the regions covered to death if they didn't wear suitable masks.

  • Paul, It will be the biggest explosion ever on Earth since the last time it blew. The crater will be visible from space. Mt St Helens erupted with a force just shy of the bomb that flattened Hiroshima. This will be many thousands times more powerful. I am in Southern California. I'll likely be vaporized in a Pyroclastic flow that will be traveling just over the speed of sound. I don't think YOU realize what will happen. New Zealand and parts of SE Asia are the only places likely to not feel the direct effects of it. Its a pretty big deal. Humans will survive. We're like cockroaches like that. But industrialized societies in Northern latitudes? Nope, we're -blam!-ed.

  • I am well aware that it will be the biggest explosion on earth, I just don't agree with its potential extinction power people seem to think. Humans are excellent at one thing, that's surviving I am pretty sure we can survive Yellowstone erupting, the survived the goddam ice age in nothing but rags and bear hides.

  • Are you reading my posts: Ahem "I don't think YOU realize what will happen. New Zealand and parts of SE Asia are the only places likely to not feel the direct effects of it. Its a pretty big deal. Humans will survive. We're like cockroaches like that. But industrialized societies in Northern latitudes? Nope, we're -blam!-ed." That thing pops its top, and N Europe kisses its ass away too. Likewise much of China and Japan.
