The way they talked about balancing multi-player worried me. Oh, that guy with the exotic weapon that is beating your ass? If you kill him once or twice you should feel good about it, because you're the underdog in that situation. I mean... what the hell? That's not balance. Also, the networking I believe is the way I believed it to be all along.

  • From what it sounds like, the underdog may get more points or xp for taking down a higher skilled opponent versus an equally matched opponent. It might pay to be the underdog and using superior tactics over superior equipment. This is all just speculation though.

  • It will be just like any other gear based multiplayer. The better geared person will have an advantage but wont be invincible. It is incentive to do whatever to acquire new gear or currency (whether it be pvp specific currency or not) to get better gear. Nothing new, nothing overwhelming, and imo makes the game better. I know if im in a game with lvls 15-20 only and I have a lvl 19 ar, im going to expect to mow fools down. If my lvl 19 exotic cloak as well allows me to take a nova bomb at half health and still be alive, im sure I went to hell and back to get it. I should take that damn nova bomb ;)

  • Perhaps with a medal, or extra experiences points. That's what it sounds like. That still doesn't fix the fact it would be unbalanced.

  • It's up to the matchmaking system to match you up with people around your skill level. Either it will do this by trying to match you up with people of a simillar equipment level, or it will just lump it in under elo, meaning that if you are matched up against someone with an Exotic Weapon when you don't have one, they must be pretty bad at using it. I'm really not concerned by this singular piece of Anecdotal evidence.

  • I am, balancing is the only thing I'm really worried about with Destiny. Halo has always been pretty vanilla, even with Reach. With the amount of customizability, different classes and a level system I just don't know how they're going to do it. Because I freaking HATE Call of Duty. I got Ghosts for free (only reason why I got a Call of Duty since MW2), and it's just disgusting when you jump in a lobby and there are people there who have these golden guns that can kill you from across map in one hit. The thing that has me wanting Destiny though, is that it seems it will be more skillbased like Halo. As in, I don't have to have first shot to win. If someone shoots me in the back I'm not immediately dead, I have the opportunity to turn around and deal my damage, strafe and land headshots. That's the only saving grace I guess in my point of view.

  • Well, with Bungie playing their game daily, any strategies that become flavor of the month are sure to see some review from the sandbox balance tream. They're quite competitive you know :) After launch, I'm hopefully optimistic that we'll see better support from Bungie in terms of live balance. I understand that patching is expensive, usually thanks to the console-side of things, but I'd like to think that they could be able to make tweaks to their environment as required. It would make the Arena model work out much better I think if they could have control over their diverse sandbox rather than just the maps and gametypes.
