Researchers analysed data spanning 46 years and involving more than 25 million children in 28 countries.
On average, children today run a mile 90 seconds slower than did their counterparts 30 years ago, they said.
Tap kek.
Do you think you could run faster than your mom/dad could when they were your age?
I know I could, my dad was quite short until he was 20, then a he grew over a foot and a half lol.
-
Now? Easily, because my parents are both very aged for the country we reside in. Back when my dad was 40? No. I can run a mile in about 7:30 now, and about 6:50-7:00 back in high school, but my dad was in his college track team back in the Philippines and kept running regularly until he moved to America. There's no way I could handle something like that if I went up against my dad from when he was still running.
-
In 2nd grade when I had a bunch of kids chasing after me, I use to run for a good 40 minutes, no one was able to catch up to me. Now? I can't run as fast as I used to.
-
Yea. I have a 4:39 mile.
-
I walk. EVERY TIME.
-
My mile time is 8:20 or something
-
I haven't been timed in my mile since middle school, I could probably run it in under 6 minutes pretty easily though. I'm more of a sprinter though
-
Edited by BSS Lazer: 11/23/2013 5:45:54 PMYes since I run 6Km every 2 days and my parents were never particularly athletic. Chances are i could run a mile pretty quickly but I wouldn't be particularly fast after the mile since a mile is 2.5km I think. A few months ago my casual pace took me at 6 minutes per km but that could be sped up without too much trouble. EDIT: Disregard, my 8:26 time was for 2.5km.
-
Of course I could. I'm a track and cross-country runner year-round.
-
I'm slow, but I'm more of an endurance guy.
-
I run like a 6:45 mile or something. My parents weren't exactly the athletic types growing up so probably.
-
Make them listen to this, that will make em go faster
-

Edited by Foxy: 11/22/2013 7:47:09 PMOnly good for short bursts of speed my endurance is horrible. I like running but I hate it too. Edit: I mean I might possibly be able to do a mile under ten minutes but I'd be exhausted after. :/
im not over weight but I am slightly under. I just need to do some running and regular weight lifting. After I finish all this Halloween candy of course n,n
-
I would doubt it with my joints all screwy. I wasn't a bad runner though, I could outrun my brothers and parents.
-
I run a 6:00 minute mile, dat ain't bad.
-
The last time I got my mile times was in JROTC my Sophomore Year and it was a 6:45.25. That being said, I can probably run it way faster now but it's not as important as my 100 freestyle time.
-
I can run a 5:45 mile but my dad was quite the athletic badass when he was in college, I dunno...
-
I prefer to walk or short sprint, I was never made for endurance running.
-
It makes sense... The majority of humans no longer need to run..
-
Lol, everyone is trying to show off with fake times. Well I tell it straight, 7:00 mile but I'm a swimmer so it's ok.
-
Edited by Hawke: 11/22/2013 4:00:22 PMYup. I'm running 5:50. But, today's generation of kids are lazy. Edit: every mile for 3 miles. Not amazing, but I'm better than average.
-
Cause this is sooooo important
-
Edited by cxkxr: 11/22/2013 3:23:19 PMA mile is more of endurance than speed, which makes sense.
