Headphones/headsets for the PS4

I have heard that you cannot use many of the PS4 headsets out there because of some issues with the PS4. They need to work out the problems via patch they say, so does anyone know of really good headset companies besides Tritton, Astron and the really expensive ones that has a large possibility of working with the PS4 besides the cheap earbud included? If you don't know that, what is your favorite headset companies for the PS3/PS4? I'm looking to buy one for my PS4 once it's out, but I don't know what's the best brand or most used (I don't have $250 to spend on one, BTW). Thanks!

  • IMO, your best bet is to get a headset with a 1/8 inch jack like the buds that come packaged with the PS4. This will by pass driver or bluetooth issues. As for brands, I'm partail to Sennheiser and buying one this week.

  • Contacted Sony Support. PS4 support 5.1 Surround Sound via both HDMI and Optical out. So the Astro Mixamp will work.

    • 7.1 Surround sound. This is a followup to my previous post. There is lots of discussion about Surround Sound Headsets and using Turtle Beach vs. Astro A40 or A50. In my research, I've found comments suggesting the Optical out is only 2.1 which suggest that the Astro system is doing virtual surround sound. Until I find, a Sony or PS4 document indicating how to configure 7.1 output; I will stand pat. Note, the comment regarding Optical out being limited to 2.1 was found in AVS forum while research 7.1 Receivers. In addition, the thread indicates that raw 7.1 signal is available via HDMI which is what Sony has marketed. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/142-playstation-area/1502956-ps4-audio-settings.html
