OK, the only valid complaints against her: -She tends to think inside the labels of "masculine/feminine" -She's sometimes pro-segregation-of-sexes -She's fairly anti-sexuality and a bit conservative -She doesn't offer a particularly good look into feminism -She clearly knows her marketing, meaning she should be publicly executed along with everyone else who's studied / taught that Yeah, that's pretty much it. All minor points, really. "But she doesn't play the games!" Who gives a shit. "But feminists are all nazis!" Go read something. "She's overpaid!" So's everyone who didn't major in STEM.

People take this way too seriously. Anita's videos aren't that informative or worthy of praise from an analysis / feminist point of view, but her making of a couple hundred grand off C-grade vlogs is still a trivial thing to complain about. Oh, and the "uses other people's let's plays footage" criticism... why? I can't even fathom someone giving a modicum of a fuck about that. Her excessive face-time is a more legitimate criticism, and that's nothing to flip shit over.

28 RepliesSo? Why does she need to play the games to critique the female roles in them? She can be shown the video, or simply watch another play and still get the experience necessary to write her pieces. You know what? She's right. Games DO have the tropes she talks about. The industry has relied on male empowerment for so long that it doesn't know another way of writing. Given that kids play these games, they contribute to what these kids will grow up thinking their role is. On top of that, its lazy writing. We need more Skyrims, more Halo's, more Mass Effects and such. These games are different because they broke the trope mold. They created new tropes for other games to follow. Thank you Bungie for doing this. Too bad not every Dev has writers that can...

The problem with Sarkeesian with me: The incomplete, circular argument style that uses fragments of footage to justify her points on entire games. Also her rashness to call games out for being sexist when development was pro-feminism *cough cough* Bayonetta *cough cough* The problem I have with developers: They take "sex sells" to highly making scantly clad female models and armors instead of immersive and god-fobid actual clothes or armors that a a character would wear. The problem I have with people responding to either: Most people are not willing to see the other side of the argument.

I always found the fact she's complaining about the lack of "strong females" in games where you mow down other human beings for fun is kind of like complaining that the atom bombs weren't painted pink. Surely the victimized pacifist women are morally the better people for not participating in the slaughter. (food for thought, not wholly my views)
