Should happen, as well as under god removed from the pledge of allegiance. Separation of government and church, it should be secular. Originally our money had E pluribus unum, One out of many, and it was added around the same time under god was the the pledge, there is no reason for any religious context or idealogy to be present in our government or government tender.
"In God we trust" was adopted as the official motto of the United States in 1956 as an alternative or replacement to the unofficial motto of E pluribus unum, adopted when the Great Seal of the United States was created and adopted in 1782.[1][2]
"In God We Trust" has been on currency on and off since the late 1800's. Well before it was added to the pledge. - Der

 • That was before we had a national currency, and currency was dependent on states. There is no reason to have the statement, when we are supposed to be a secular government.

 • We didn't have a national currency in 1869??
The Mint was created by Congress with the Coinage Act of 1792, and originally placed within the Department of State. Per the terms of the Coinage Act, the first Mint building was in Philadelphia, then the capital of the United States; it was the first building of the Republic raised under the Constitution.
The constitution created religion free from government, not government free from religion. - Der

 • Sorry i was way off, It started appearing on coins in 1864, and paper in 1957. Still no reason to show a religious ideology, or a concept of god, when the separation of church and state is a core concept.
