Your God is either impotent or has the power to reduce or eliminate human suffering and chooses not to this is not a "great" being.

He has given every human being free will. If you take away all of the suffering in the world, you must take away free will. Suffering comes from free will because the people who cause you pain are acting on this right that God has given them. If God took away suffering, no one would really have free will, and he doesn't want that. He loves us enough that he will let us make whatever choice we want, even if it's the wrong one.

The reason why there is suffering is because there are selfish, egotistical, and self-seeking people. To take away suffering is to take away people's free will to do what they want. God gives us free will because he loves us enough to give us the option of not following him. He doesn't want robots following him, and because of that, the evil nature of people brings suffering into the world.
