Gamescom disapointment

I feel a bit let down now that Gamescom has finished. It was nothing like E3, and the hype level was nearly the same. Don't get me wrong, I still love Bungie and I'm totally looking forward to Destiny, but I think their presentation should match the hype level. Quite a few of you misunderstood my post.
I think Bungie hyped it too much for what they gave us. I would've been pleasantly satisfied with what they showed us at Gamescom if they hadn't overhyped it. I totally agree with you: the less they reveal, the better. They just need to match the hype level with the reveal, and I'll be okay.
• I knew not to hype the event, so I was pleasantly surprised by the new vidoc.

Bungie needs to stop boasting about how great their stuff is, when they have little to show. It's the same thing that happened with game journalists, who were invited to their studio only to see nothing; but were instead treated to a load of buzz words and PR talk. Start talking big when you have something big to show. Something substantial.

  • They can't show us everything. The less they show, the better the surprise will be when it actually comes out. That said, I was somewhat disappointed by gamescon.

  • I suppose I was disappointed as well. But the funny thing about disappointment is that it's always your fault. Disappointment is predicated on expectations, and expectations can be set too high. The game is in pre-alpha. Yes, I would always like to see more of a game, and yes, I did think they would show more, but in know way does this detract from my excitement for the game and/or my estimate of its potential. I hope we see more at Pax, but if not, I'll just be patient and bide my time. Lots of great games coming out, and I'll have a new system in November :)

    • I think both Gamescon and E3 were disappointments.

      • It wasn't really that hyped for me. It just felt like a new place to show off their stuff.

      • We still have a long ways to go. Destiny is in Pre-Alpha. The reason Bungie isn't revealing "hard facts" about Destiny is because they still don't even have those facts set in stone. Don't set your expectations so high. Enjoy the calm while it lasts.

      • I agree. I was hoping for something new and exciting to re-up my hype for the game. But that did not happen at all. The Vidoc they release was boring and didn't catch my attention at all.

The "hype level" is and always has been something arbitrarily set by each individual member of the community in his or her own mind.

      • It's called teasing. It's a very common form of advertising, especially when the release date is so far away.

        • Think of it this way... We only have some months till the game releases next year, and since it was in development for 10 years, they're probably nearly done with the game and putting on final touches. What I mean by that is they want Destiny to be completely surprising to EVERYBODY. There won't be walkthroughs coming out by youtubers who got the game early, or everyone, knowing the storyline, characters, before they get bored by the game expecting everything. Bungie has approached this game in a very interesting way, and the less you get spoiled, the better this game is gonna be.
