Release Day Parties
Share your own experiences with a Bungie game release. What did you do and who was there? Do you plan on doing anything for Destiny?

For Halo: Reach, a friend and I went to the midnight release, played some multiplayer, slept, then skipped school and played through the whole campaign and then more multiplayer. Very fun day.

1 ReplyFor Halo: Reach, I skipped school and managed to convince my mom to drive me to Gamestop early in the morning to pick it up. I played it For literally 12 hours with my big brother.

1 ReplyI line up outside my gamestop at an necessary hour just for the pure fun of it. Met some awesome people that way! Plus there is a walmart and mcdonalds 200 yards from my gamestop so its always funny to see the deals go down. Like "hey man will you save my spot?" "Yeah for 1 mcdouble!" its always a good time. Plus there is that one employee who opens a copy of the game and plays it in the back room then runs outside to spoli it for everyone -_- And there is usually xboxes and tvs in the parking lot for impromtu LANs/tournements. Watching chimpmunkpunk get his head blown off in gears by a gamestop employee was one of the best midnight moments ever hahaha

I plan on getting a ton of people over, with as many TV and consoles as possible, and ordering a whole shit ton of pizza. Then, once everyone's gathered, we fire up the consoles and start Destiny... ... Only to find out that the servers couldn't handle launch day, and we have to wait nearly a week to actually play !! FFFFUUUUUUU-- !!!!!!

2 RepliesWhen Halo: Reach was released, I waited in line with my brother for our Legendary Edition boxes, and we were not disappointed. We each went to our respective homes, unboxed and assembled the Noble Team commemorative statues and installed the game. I jumped into a multiplayer game or two while pouring over the other materials in the bundle of joy thet Bungie included therein. After a couple of games, I went to bed dreaming of pink death and laser swords. For Destiny, the story will be similar, but I plan on taking the next day off so I can break Destiny in and get a jump start on any friends foolish enough to sleep after the release... XD Really it depends on if enough of my friends are going to get the XBox One or not because that's my platform of choice for Destiny, though I may buy both XBox 360 and XBox One versions if enough of my friends will be playing on 360 still.

4 RepliesNever been to a midnight release, always have wanted to though. My parents think missing one day of school is going to kill me especially when every game I've wanted releases on a Tuesday. Which, in our school Tuesdays are always shortened days.

Only one I went to was the Reach midnight release party at gamestop, we had a little caesers next to it so it was all good except for the cold.

Halo 3 midnight launch. McDonalds in the queue whilst pissed up passers by yell "he dies" at us. Nerding out with other fanboys and Zinger Tower. Going home, sparking a doobie and playing co-op Legendary campaign with Jim until tooooo late. Good times :)

On topic: I sadly may not be getting Destiny on release, because if they announce a PC port at a later date I'll wait for that. If there is no definite sign of a PC port by release I'll go ahead and buy it for the 360. (I'd prefer PC because I'll be able to have better graphics than the 360/PS3 without having to buy a next gen console)

Back in 2010 when Reach came out, I got of school and went to gamestop as quickly as I could. Once I got home, Reach in hand, my friends came over. Once they came over I made a quick trip to the bathroom only to find that my friends hid Reach from me! I was so pissed at the time, but it's pretty funny now!

5 RepliesI live pretty remote, so I was never able to swing making a midnight release until Halo 4. Drove 2 hours one way, to standard in line at the nearest GameStop. It was great to hear all the Halo stories and watch peoples reactions to where I live. My son and I got our games and then drove home ... opened the boxes, checked out all our cool extras and plugged the games in until we couldn't stay awake any longer. For Destiny, I'm hoping to stay with my son, he's moved, and wait for the midnight release there. The games are always more fun with friends.

The Gamestop by my house always hosts tournaments for game releases, normally held on launch day, but on rare occasion are held up to a week in advance. I've entered tournaments for Halo Reach, Halo 4, and Madden 12 and they were a ton of fun. The winners get their game for free, but they also have the option to go double or nothing against an employee for a free edition upgrade for the game or store credit, and if they win again, they can play the manager for $100 store credit plus a free preorder.
