Do you have to join a faction in Destiny?
I don't really feel like joining a certain faction in Destiny. Is it required to join one or can you avoid faction business altogether?

Most likely, even the act of joining a Faction probably isn't a permanent one. Think about it this way: If joining a Faction was a permanent event, then Bungie is effectively splitting up the playerbase into 5ths, which would be extremely disruptive towards community building. "Hey, you seem like a cool guy, do you want to play under the New Monarchy Banner tonight?" "Sorry, my main is Dead Orbit, my New Monarchy Character is bad." "Oh, I don't even have a Dead Orbit Character. That sucks." From everything we've seen, Bungie doesn't want players to regret the choices they make in Destiny. There are no race attributes, because they don't want a situation where you make an Awoken Titan only to figure out three hours in that it would have been better for you to make an Exo Titan because their racial bonuses match up better with the Titan's. And even with classes, there's a ton of overlap between what the classes can do, so even then you won't pick a Warlock and then be left completely cursing your decision down the road. Factions would be no different in my mind. It would suck to join FWC only to figure out that all your friends joined the Seven Seraphs. I imagine Factions are just a hat that you wear depending on your mood. People can certainly have their favorites, and deck their stuff out with the appropriate symbol and colors of their faction, but I can be a diehard Osiris fan one night and then join a friend for some New Monarchy shenanigans the next. I would be very surprised if Factions were mandatory, and if they were permanent choices.

No you don't need to join a faction. Just put on your cape, butt cape, or wedding band and your good, you can switch to whatever faction you need for reputation at will.

5 RepliesIn the Vidoc wasn't it said there are factions as well as a choice of "Independents" or "Allegiance of Independents" or something for those who don't want to join one.

I think factions are going to be a reflection of the activities you do most often in Destiny. Some people play a lot more campaign than multiplayer and vice versa. Factions might be a way to represent those choices.

i agree i really don't like the fact that you can only get faction specific armor ,weapons and spaceship so i'll pick Fwc or Seven Seraphs . What about you?

Factions are probably no different from Clans or Guilds in other games. You don't need to join one at all (especially with Destiny's focus on the choice to be alone or with people), and you most likely have the choice to leave and join another one any time you want.

i believe that the factions will have some impact on the game such as cutscenes quests you can recieve and also a long time ago when they showed the menu screen there was an option that was called faction wars. There is also some faction related items

2 RepliesI am betting that joining a Faction is like getting a sponsorship. I'm starting to think that they are all manufacturers of some sort. Maybe they will all manufacture different type of items and having a sponsorship allows you to buy that company's items for cheaper. It could be like Borderlands where there are different manufacturers that imbue their weapons with different recognizable traits.

From what i saw in one of the trailers i think it will have no effect on the actual game at all, when it comes to PvP it'll just be the different sides, maybe there will be a league contest between each one and such, i cant see it having anything to do with SP

I've gotten the sense that factions are just going to be organizations that give you tasks or missions to complete. They mentioned earlier doing bounties for the queen of the reef, so i think that is tied into a faction of some sort.

Nobody knows. I'm hoping it's something you can jump around in the game and story arc. Speculation and mystery shroud their purpose currently.
