I like how everyone's like "-blam!- YOUTUBE ADS, ADBLOCK AWAY! HAHA!" and yet ads on youtube are the reason why the website can remain completely free to use. Can't wait 'till everyone throws a shitstorm if they make you pay to watch or upload videos. I used to use adblock but then I realized how selfish it was, so I turned it off. And guess what? Having ads wasn't as hellish as I though. I mean shit, most youtube ads allow a "skip ad" button five seconds into the ad.

  • You realise that YouTube is introducing pay-to-view channels? You were saying?

  •
In a statement, YouTube said it is looking into creating a "subscription platform" that provides its partners with a way to generate revenue beyond video rentals and placing ads in and around content.

Such a model could help video producers make money from niche audiences. That's different from how YouTube works now, where the most popular videos, like PSY's "Gangnam Style" music video, make the most money from advertising.

"For people who create great value but for only a narrow interest group, I think that the potential for pay channels unlocks opportunities for creating revenue streams," said Lucas Watson, YouTube's vice president of sales and marketing, at the time.

"It's a whole new skill set to develop: to convince people to actually take out their credit card, even for one cent," said Robert Kyncl, YouTube's vice president and global head of content partnerships, told reporters at the March event.
You were saying?

  • And why are they giving people the ability to use pay-to-view? Partly for the benefits to the channel owners, but mostly to benefit themselves. Adblocker becoming more prominent is meaning that Google lose out on a huge amount from videos with high view counts. I mean, a video I made with 80K hits has made me £60 from ads, so how much did Google make on top of that? Allowing pay-to-view channels to be set up means that they don't have adverts on them, but Google still get a decent cut. So yeah, you were saying?

What part of "niche market" and "other sources of revenue apart from ads" did you not understand? Are you seriously this stupid? If Google felt they wre losing serious money from Ad-Block, they'd be vocal about it. This isn't some sort of giant conspiracy, if Google has a serious problem with Ad-Block, they'd do everything in their power to get rid of it or not allow people running it to visit their sites. They're doing this to create more money for themselves apart from ads.

  • Alright, that was bit far fetched, and I probably should have used "if" there instead. Sorry.

  • Thanks for the mature response. I'm sorry if I was a bit rude in that post.

  • Yea, well, it seems like people have a bit of maturing to do. At least those with that response. There have been a few users who have given passable explanations as to why they personally block ads, but that's like 3 people, the rest just don't get it.

  • Alright, that's it. You have no real points to make. You've been muted. I've tried reasoning with you, I've tried having a discussion with you, and it doesn't make a lick of difference. Your goal is to be a troll and incite anger. Please feel free to learn how to have a discussion with someone. Until that happens, audios.

Muting me just shows that you dislike being proven wrong and that you're immature. By the way, it's "adios" not "audios".

  • I didn't actually mute you. But I do stand by what I've said. None of your points are valid, and you've failed to see that, I'm not the only one who has pointed this out either. So continue to punish content creators and news sites for providing free content. Eventually things will change and you will have to adapt to that change, but until then, keep hiding behind poor reasoning and misguided beliefs.

Again, you keep saying I'm unreasonable, misguided ect... Yet you don't point out exactly why I'm wrong. You just keep telling me I'm wrong.
keep hiding behind poor reasoning
Stop projecting.
