I'm not saying I hate co-op -- in fact, I love co-op -- but in MMOs and shooters with more expansive maps/areas to explore and fight in, I've always enjoyed being less of 'one of the guys (and/or girls)' and preferred skirting the edges of the map; using guerilla tactics. You get it. But I think with the 'background matchmaking,' or whatever they called it, it's going to be even more fun to play as a lone wolf and come across other people in the middle of a huge firefight, or struggling in a mission, and being able to appear out of nowhere and help them out.
I find that concept equally exciting as exploring and adventuring through the worlds with friends who have my back.
