Surreal moments of your life

Has anyone been caught in a bizzare moment where normalcy seems to have been shoved out the nearest window? I was once visiting a preserved military battleground from the civil war near Highland Falls in New York during the winter (it was closed, but they didn't do a very good job securing it). It had been snowing interminably for the past few days, and everything was covered in a thick blanket of snow - there was nothing there except monuments half-buried in snow, the frozen Hudson to one side about 80 metres off a perilous drop and an endless expanse of white all around. No sounds either, 'twas eerie, although you'd have to experience the quiet for yourself to appreciate how strange it was.

  • One time I was having a slash. The only light on in the whole house was the one in the bathroom, and it was deathly quiet. Then, the light decides to turn off and leave a loud hissing noise running through the place. Needless to say, I was startled and it took me a few moments to realize what had happened.

  • Standing outside at night tends to do that to me, if I stay out long enough. Same with driving at night.
