Any advice for a kid shipping out for Army Basic Training?

So I decided that I didn't wanna be in massive debt by going to college right when I graduate high school, in my limited wisdom I signed up with the "world's largest all-volunteer force" the US Army. I am shipping out for Basic on July 1st to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. Any advice here for help in surviving lost-in-the-woods? I already know military bearing, marching, basic marksmanship, and general military history from my time in the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and I already know it is gonna be hot as hell, there will be screaming, and I will get my ass beat in PT every day, but anyone got any advice for mind-game shit that I should look out for?

  • Don't get a sunburn on duty. You can be fined for destruction of government property.

  • Nice. I leave for my own training (Air Force) on the 11th. Good luck, my brother. Best advice I can give is just advice I've been given in the two years I've spent training for... well, the training. Accept that you're going to get yelled at, and make them dig for insignificant !@#$ to yell at you for. The training is designed to make you succeed and prosper, not to make you fail. It's there to make you better. As soon as you accept that you're going to get yelled at no matter how perfect you are, the better. That's a piece of advice I was given and I fully plan on using in three weeks when I leave.

    • I'm assuming the treatment of recruits would be like ours, so I'll say this: if a superior gets up in your grill during training, pretend it's a game. Do what they want and don't be silly about it, but don't take it personally if they start yelling and have a hissy fit. They're actually told to find problems that aren't there and call you out on them to trip you out and make you submit.
