XB1 Rumor: MS Paying Devs to not use PS4 during E3
Two of our most trusted neoGAF insiders have said that Microsoft is reacting hard to what has went down, and so they're going to try to dismantle PS4's image as a "for gamers" console by paying publishers and devs to not show their multiplatform titles during E3 on a PS4. In other words, even if the multiplatform version is coming out for the PS4, they won't be able to show them at E3, thus contributing to the perception that somehow Sony is getting significantly less support for PS4 than Microsoft is "for gamers."
Unconfirmed rumor is unconfirmed, but if there is truth behind this, this is some shady business. But this is how business goes, and if this is how MS is going to try to save their after shooting themselves in the foot so be it. Thoughts. Here is the original rumor And here are NeoGAF members checking his credibility, "pretty sure famousmortimer does have legit developer contacts."

  • I wonder if they also payed off Spike TV because they aren't showing the E3 PS4 press conference on their channel.

  • I doubt there is anything shady going on. It is good business to pay multi-platform developers to showcase their game on your machine. How you present a story makes a big difference. If you rescue a puppy from an overly rough and grabby toddler, it could also be spun as: "Adult makes child cry by taking puppy." I guess I am in the "nothing to see here" camp on this one.

  • I doubt this is true. Microsoft knows that they lost leverage with sectors of the gaming community, and know that doing something this stupid would even further people's move away from the X1. Besides, with the moneyhatting of Titanfall (which sounds impressive BTW and I can't wait to see it at the show), they know that they can at least win back either the shooter crowd and/or further reinforce their stranglehold dudebro/frat/NFL crowd. This is extremely dangerous, and I doubt Microsoft would ever attempt something like this given the gaming public's divided attitudes towards them.

  • Too many rumors. At this point I can't help but think it's silly to spread them. I mean, I could make a rumor that THIS was a rumor put out by Sony to make MS look bad because Sony realizes too many people are going to the Xbox. See how easy that is? Stories suck.

I don't know if this is true or not. On one hand, this is so dangerous that it's almost suicidal. If it was leaked, Microsoft would be shooting themselves in the foot. Isn't this illegal in some form or fashion? I didn't think you were allowed to completely monopolize a form of industry so completely that it would shut down all forms of competition. Something tells me the BBB would have a problem with that. Why would Microsoft risk this? I doubt they're THAT desperate. If it's true, then Jesus H. Christ. Someone shut down Microsoft.

      • Wouldn't blame them. They must have a massive surplus of spending money after the success of the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. Good for them.

      •
This isn't shady business at all. Its just advertising. Like when CoD has an Xbox advert on TV but not a PS3 advert.
^ This. This is just how business works, especially in as cut-throat of an industry as the games industry. I'm pretty sure that had Sony thought of it first then they'd already be doing the same thing. Or maybe they did think of it, but lacked the cash pool of Microsoft. The Sony corporation as a whole has been operating pretty far in the red for years now... Either way, nothing shady here, just smart business in one of the most competitive industries in the world.

        • This is actually normal. A lot of last gen EA had an agreement with Sony at game showings, and games like Battlefield and everything else were demoed with Dualshocks. I remember some press complaining because they don't like using them for first person shooters. (Controller obviously a personally preference.)

Might be a little sneaky, but hey if it works for Microsoft more power to them. It's nice to know that Microsoft does indeed know what their audiences are saying and thinking though.

          • I made a few friendly comments about MS lately, but if that is true my decision to switch to PS4 (as soon as I can afford it) is as good as finished.
