Firstly, I started play halo from 3 so maybe this is the main reason.
For the story, it makes the chief feels more human. Maybe this isn't what you want but I feel this chief more real.
And since 4 is the first multiplayer halo I've ever played, it simply is the best multiplayer FPS I've ever played
