I enjoyed the Campaign because 'Chief and Cortana's story was the most compelling of the franchise, thus far. It was strange at first, to witness so much heart being placed into their journey because I'm so used to little-to-no character development in a Halo game. There was no 'bad' level, but there were some rough moments, and it never reached the heights of previous entries. I think it was solid throughout, gameplay wise. I also enjoyed the music. I enjoy MP because battles move at a nice pace, and weapons feel satisfying to use - especially following the recent weapon update. AAs, for the most part, were better implemented, by taking up a more passive role - with the exception of the horrible camo and jetpack. There are issues, such as instant respawns and personal ordanace, but they're not enough to stop me from playing. The core game's just great fun. Spartan Ops was a cool experiment, but it suffered from repetition. I did enjoy a number of episodes, though, and thought it was successful enough for them to follow it up when they have a lot more time to show more versatility like they did in the second half.

  • Thanks for the post. I'm glad that you took the time to answer honestly and thoroughly. I think one of the things that turned me off of the game was how much emotion was placed in a character who rarely showed emotion. I felt it was very unnatural and even uncharacteristic to the point where it didn't even feel like that was the Chief to me. I also was a little turned down by how whiny Cortana and a few other characters were.

  • I actually thought 343 struck a delicate balance between 'Chief becoming a more human character, and yet still maintaining that mysterious, powerful, warrior we know and love; and who's revered by so many within the universe. I thought the emotions that came through were subtle, and he never spoke unnecessarily, imo. The humanization came from more meaningful interaction between Cortana and 'Chief. She wasn't her comedic, witty, self, but she was dealing with the fact she was on the verge of dying. She would say something that 'Chief wouldn't really know how to answer, but would simply reassure her. It was interesting to see him face something that he was powerless against. That never stopped him being the formidable character of past games, though. His confrontation with Del Rio showed him disobeying orders to keep Cortana safe, but he did it in a firm way. He was powerful in that scene. When Cortana's rampancy took over and hindered the mission he was never angered by it, neither did he try to baby her; he simply tried his best to deal with the situation. He'd even come off as a bit cold to her, not responding to her distress and apologies whilst he tried to rectify the damage she caused. As much as he wants to help Cortana, he understands that stopping the Didact is his primary goal. He reminded me of his portrayal in the novels, which I always thought would be cool to see make that the transition to the games.
